i dont like the worldbuilding though, if its like tanya's this thing would need women to have 10 children from 13 to 23 years old, then be sent work into the business of raising kids, farming and military industry, because no country can sustain conflicts with this intensity for too long.
Maybe its like irl and they are just in a time where the last big wars were like 400 years ago. and the industrial revolution and political conflicts sparked a new big war.

I mean, it should be a little concerning how young some of these combatants look. We can only assume the top brass believes they are close to breaking the other side, or that suing for peace is impossible. But given your point, it's likely they have run out of able-bodied ... bodies to throw at this meat grinder regardless of what captain "I'll solo this battlefield" thinks.

Man, I opened up the discussions to see what praises people had for this amazing story and all I'm seeing is stupid comparisons to Tanya.

I love Saga of Tanya the Evil but this isn't even close to the same story. I read ahead in the webnovel raws using machine translation and this story is so much different. A lot of the good in this story comes from feeling how tragic the main character's situation is as they very slowly gain skills at such a dear cost.

This is much different from Tanya, where the main character is overwhelmingly powerful from the start and most of the struggle is strategic or more large scale.

Also, in regards to memories from the past life, they are almost never useful in this story, especially at the beginning. While Tanya uses her previous education at every opportunity, and to significant effect.

This story fits a niche and isn't going to be enjoyable for everyone. But if you are reading this expecting it to be similar to Tanya, then you are guaranteed to be disappointed.

As a WN reader who caught up to the lastest chapter of both YS and this i can say with confidence that the WN of TS Medic’s battlefield diary makes YS look like the walmart version instead. Like a bag of skittle you get at walmart that can quickly be enjoyable ; YS is filled with action , comedic moments and powerflexing badassery that people newer to anime / manga would enjoy. Medic‘s diary is more like a nicely aged brisket rich in flavor , smoked and served in nice cut later as the story go on with a lot of character developments , the experiences the MC goes through without given a super magic cheat , actual war novel that read like a war novel not power fantasy , tons of guts punching emotional moments that people who are well read can appreciate. Both titles are good but different kind of taste , comparable at first glance from the gen-ben worldwar-like settings but not.

What I don't get is, why MC didn't use his knowledge to train/prepare during orphan phase.

MC joined the army as a medic expecting to be a backline healer , not running in the frontline while getting bombed. There is a nasty reason why mc(a young female medic with underdeveloped magic and physique) got assigned to Garback’s squad involving personal grudge but i wont spoil whose as that side story might come up.

Love this manga. It's way more grounded than most things in the setting. I hope we can put this manga next to the greats of boots on the ground war fiction. I'll be sad if the MC is shooting lasers or something by the end of the story.

To all the people here commenting that this is a "discount youjo senki" or a "ripoff youjo senki." You all just showed that you didn't read past the synopsis. The premise might be similar however, the core themes are completely different.

Youjo Senki at its core is merely a power fantasy devoid of any truly deep meaning meanwhile TS Eiseihei-san no Senjou Nikki is honestly closer to "Genocidal Organ" or even "Violet Evergarden." TS Eisihei is trying to portray the HORRORS of WAR through the eyes of a powerless young girl. I honestly think the "genderswap" is a gimmick however it does further add to the feeling of "powerlessness," since the MC is smaller, weaker, and overall in a worse position simply by being "female" on a battlefield.

Don't read "Seinen" or mature manga. This manga is clearly trying to portray the realism and horror of war. Even in our modern world when you ignore a "superior officer's" orders you will be berated or worse physically disciplined.

I suggest you read some more slice-of-life stuff or CGDCT instead.

The three version of YS (LN, manga, anime) are radically different from each other. The LN version of YS is about war -- not the "war is bad, m'kay" trope, but rather the mechanics of war -- tactics, strategy, politics, espionage, negotiation with neutral powers, overextending, being too committed, etc. Again, it's not moralistic, rather it's "Here's a tour of how war actually works."

Aside from that (which is actually pretty interesting), the big draw of LN YS is the inner and outer dialog -- the ping pong of brilliant minds bouncing against each other is just a blast to read.

This manga is good -- and yeah it's a totally different story vs YS. But if you think that YS lacks depth, I have to suspect that you've stuck to the anime/manga versions of YS and skipped the LN.

Literally no point in being genderswapped or being a "ex-pro fps gamer from japan" makes 0 diffrence.
Why not just have the girl get recruited/drafted for the military cause they had a talent for healing magic.

I dont get people's problem with this, the character development has a HUGE potential, and the MC is not some OP talented mage like youjo senki (even though she had character developments, she's still OP as duck). I'd say it's better.

This is not something you see everyday, the characters are good and interesting, even though they were meant to be killed off.

The genderswapped tag is really unnecessary though, it would've been a lot better if this was not labelled an isekai.
