Great another retarded MC. WW1 combat is incredibly awful, everyone knows that. Was he living under a rock? Commander attitude is also stupid, I'm surprised he isn't dead yet, if not the enemy then by friendly fire.

There isn't anything not terrible about this manga. The characters, the premise, the art.

So far, this manga reads like a fever dream, so the easiest way to make sense of it is to compare it to Tanya - and find it on the losing side of the comparison

Actually...? Yes.
Tanya was brutal, yes, not from up-close and in the trenches, but from a Commander and in the Air, there was that disconnect between her and everybody else.
This manga? Brutal UP CLOSE and PERSONAL, and from a kid's perspective of their first time seeing real combat and some of the worst things imaginable, and NOT being OP. Being a magician medic, and having so little, you can't hardly do anything before passing out. She's not given hardly any training, and no time to really do much of anything beyond "survive". There's no schooling they can get, no safety to avoid their shitty choices in life. They picked it, and now they're stuck with it, either until the end of the war, or they finally die.

Tanya = not-so-relatable, watching a Narcissist fight a god.
Nikki= relatable and not fighting a god, but fighting to simply survive.

You're probably not understanding of Historical figures in real life war, and how they acted during live combat. He is as close to an asshole Field Commander as was known during both the American Civil War, Korean Civil War, Vietnam Civil War, and World War 1 and 2. He is the stereotypical asshole Field CO from all regions, and almost comparable to United States General George S. Patton. "Old Blood n Guts".
If you haven't been educated at all, about warfare between 1600 A.D. and 1980 A.D. they make modern day combat look like a walk in the park, with how surgical combat has become.
But if you really don't care, and don't care for this manga, well, might I suggest you try a different story to suit your tastes in stories, instead of being whiny about it? Some of us are looking for more than just another Overpowered bullshit story...

Tanya being OP looks to be pretty integral to that story. Her goal is to kill a literal god, and said god is willing to directly and indirectly get nearly every human on the planet to try and go murder 'her' in the misguided attempt to get her to cry for mercy. It would drastically change the story if she only had 'normal' powers. Without seeing the ending we can already predict that god's arrogance will be its downfall whenever Tanya does gain the ability to bring that power to bear against it. Even before then I think many people do read it because they enjoy seeing both her cleverness AND her power being used to overcome the odds of many vs one and other obstacles put in her way by the god.

In regard to the writing for Tanya, I think the biggest risk is that as long as she doesn't lose her will to fight the reader has no reason to doubt her ability to keep on her course, at least until the god gives up on the bet and just tries to kill her outright. It could shake things up if there are worse consequences for her actually using her power but I don't think the arrogant god will stoop to declaring itself the winner using abilities that remove her free will to submit to it. This part doesn't need her to be OP but like I said before I think she needs to be OP for both her own goals and to punish the prideful flaws of the arrogant god.

This is one of the few special kids like youjo senki, i've been searching far and wide for manga based on world war or just something resembling it. The protagonist isn't a sadistic warlord or a decorated officer like a certain gremlin, she's more like the average people who didn't have anywhere to go and conscription is her only choice, so i can imagine its more about being in Hell and struggling to survive in it. But for now, the premise beyond just surviving to see the next day isn't clear yet, and we haven't seen Touli'sand i hope the following chapter can fix this, and maybe get some cool scenes.
