You put it perfectly. It seems almost villainous, which could be interesting if it was intended, but I strongly suspect the author is just bumbling about, not seeing the glaring contradiction in his work. It's the typical kind of BS storytelling where the whole premise could be solved in chapter 1 with a single honest conversation.

I wonder if the author adds some borderline NTR by having the FMC's feelings turn towards Daru later on.

This is based on the same premise as the typical banished story. Est can only use one ability and it later does everything. He couldn't train him because of that typical setup, Est couldn't apply anything he could teach. Remember, even physical fighters use their own kind of buffing magic and Frey, Athena, and Daru all use the same kind while Est uses something Daru can't do.

There other kinda of training... isn't because he only could use buff he couldn't use another thing at least to defending himself... and it was his weakness an the party weakness he had to buff but he had to been protect, he could at least try to teacher him how to defend himself while are killing other monster... to me the people of the party are all hypocrite and selfish...

he could not manage the physical ability to defend himself from monsters, that's why he almost died twice. Teaching him how to swing a sword isn't going to fix that when a 3 meter tall boar or something charges through at high speed. Even when learning martial arts at a school in real life, you go through basic physical conditioning. For this story's setting, it's like he doesn't have the ability to walk and you're still suggesting he teach him kata. Remember, they're essentially superhumans and monsters fighting. There isn't a technique that Est could use if he can't atleast buff his reactions speed or movements.

Read the first chapter again.
Daru can't "train" them to be better. It's all about stats. The banished guy cannot buff himself. He can't move well. And he almost got killed many times. Plus. It was the leader girl who wanted to banish him, not Daru. He even wanted to wait for the guy to "awaken". He can teach them techniques, but if their body and memory is so bad that they can't do it, then it's meaningless.

It's like a professional programmer teaching you about programming, but you're horrible at math and numbers no matter how many hours you put into it... you won't improve. That's how the banished guy was. You can't do, what you can't do.
