Close but not quite. He was a demon lord/god who wielded the power of the concept of the "End". He was defeated by "the God" and split into 101 pieces, the "core" being Ed, the main character. The goal isn't for him to repent or repair anything, "God" just wanted to trap him in an endless loop to keep him from gaining back his power.
