So it turns out that MC is an actual clown (not pretending btw) clowning around wherever he goes.

I'm starting to think that the mangaka is taking liberties regarding how the scenes should play. That's just not good.
I am very certain 99% of the manga is completely different to the LN, instead of a generic isekai story the mangaka decided to change up everything and make it a gag parody which gave a better result
it is popular enough in jp to get 18 volumes so its fine

making some changes is just a matter of fully commiting to them, pet girl of sakurasou has an absolute dogshit LN which got turned into an actual good anime except the very ending that went back to the original plotline

I don't think it is a better result, since I don't even know how the original is. That aside, I don't think using someone else's series to tell your story is a good thing. It's disrespectful. About sakurasou, the protagonist is just so damn trash. An anime character never made me so mad as he did. It didn't help his case that I also dislike his VA though.

The original had the guild master be the one to hire the assassin, instead of it being the murderhobo guild member and the receptionist. He is then sticking around as the perpetual "look how bad his situation is" side chapters without much interaction with the main cast. I would def say stuff like this is a change for the better, and its inclusion in the webnovel was just a result of the popular trends at the time (where expelled stories have side chapters with the original party, even if it never really relates to the protag), and reflects the current at the time (manga volume was released in 2023, webnovel is mostly written in 2021) trends.

I will say, the changes make the story more interesting than what i attempted reading of the webnovel, which was very by the books, with rain having basically no personality, and things just happening without much interconnectedness (such as rain not doing the first dragon encounter with lily, which was how we learned about her trauma, or the murderhobo dude not existing, which is how margaret involved, with her just being a side-character in the webnovel (can't even remember when she appears), and barrios actually being given a reason to expel rain cause he didn't even have the whole talk with friends thing in the webnovel). It has some similar storybeats, but shifted around and lots of new characters to make it flow better. Do note that everything that has happened so far is about like let's say 45 chapters or smt. each chapter being like 1-2 pages worth of stuff, so not a lot. Instead, the manga supplemented it by actually turning each webnovel arc into actual arcs with a semblence of character growth/progression.

Plus, og author gave permission + said he enjoyed this version of the story as a reader, so that's gotta mean something.

That's good, but what about the exaggerated comedic moments? Is it the same on the novel?

the novel is by the books kinda just saying what happens as it happens. maybe yhe occasional wow or smt, but not much reaxtions outside of normal surprise (which imo doesn't fit for something with such an extreme power imbalance. think about the fact that normal enchanters do +3, while mc can do +300 to friends, which he foes on their first meeting).

also yea lily's trauma was barely in the novel iirc, she's oeiginally from the shield guild, goes on a quest with rain, then i guess is now with this new guild? there was no betrayal arc. or maybe there was, this dragon arc was (as in just the luminous dragon, not the initial encounter) was like 7 chapters (again each chapter is like 1-2 pages long)

Thank you author for not completely abandoning Margaret to wallow in the misunderstanding, but I'm a little surprised she thinks the pair has any ability to hold financial information in their head.
