For the lake part...
Basically, provoke someone who's really not willing to fight for a specific cause by forcing him to fight for that cause, and they're likely to snap dramatically.
Pacifists might not be willing to fight, but if fight comes to shove, who's to say they wouldn't excel at it ?
As for the 'dreamscenes' , I can't recall whether they were explained yet in the LN/WN (although i'm not uptodate).

He was brought there against his will by the goddess who he frankly really hates, because she needed someone with power so she brought him, even though she despises him.
That's essentially the equivalent as being kidnapped, brought to the frontline as a diversionary meatshield by your worst enemy.
And then he kept on trying to remain neutral, while constantly being attacked by beings who thought he was the goddess' trump card, which is wrong twofold, one because he didn't want to fight and two, because they thought he had something to do with the goddess.
Later on he could be described as having snapped. Which considering the situation is well deserved. And so he finally retaliated. But he doesn't really have any pinpoint attacks from that position, considering he was in the air, and he frankly could care less about collateral damage because he cared nothing for anyone down there.
