these last few chapters really could've used a second pass from an editor, so much unnesscary dialogue by the author and poor flow in the panels makes it kinda frustrating to read.
It's more like he's acting stupidly weird. Random battle where they, two super powerful beings, are fully planning on killing someone they think they just turned into a useless normal hyuman... and suddenly he's taking off his jewelry out of the blue.
Honestly whoever like this should just go read the web novel, MC actually gets character growth, and it doesnt just happen out of the blue but with mistakes and learning from those mistakes and shit.
I really don't understand why some people are complaining about him being a pathetic, weak minded MC, he just killed someone in chapter 42. Do people not understand what character growth is? He still thinks like he's in Japan which was noted by himself when he killed the woman, and he's starting to see that he thought wrongly about this world also
in the next ark, he will grow even more as a character realizing his naivety, and start to attempt to change it
but these things take time to change, if any normal human was dropped into his situation, they would gain HORRIBLE PTSD, however again as shown in chapter 42 he isn't normal, and this will be pointed out much later by multiple people. As such changes take longer to affect him
Examples for what people point out to him. Spoilers for stuff much later on
The Female Hero Hibiki who was Makoto's senpai, Mentions how he doesn't seem to show aversion to the idea of killing people, but keeps the "Stench" of a Japanese on him. Making her think he could still kill people back in Japan just the laws and his upbringing kept him from doing so.
When meeting another dragon, the dragon wants Hibiki's help to seal Makoto away due to how horrifying he is to her
A person who can see what people's "souls" are, sees that Makoto is like an egg but there's a crack in that egg that looks into an abyss, something in the abyss stares into her and is so horrifying to her that she passes out in fear and begs Makoto to never let the thing in the abyss out when she wakes up.
The side stories also mention how abnormal he is,
Before the gods he meets later in the story are heading to the world he's in, they talk to some gods of fate regarding the power he's born with and are pretty shocked at what they see, but never mention what it is. But say that "Any normal kid would definitely avert their eyes from this".
His Archery teacher (The one who exposed him to bloodlust in the last chapter) who was a mercenary talks about how abnormal he is and how suited for combat he would be if he wanted to head down that path.
Then there's people complaining about him acting stupidly in the middle of the fight. He just got teleported against his will into a battlefield, He got some of his fingers cut off, being attacked by someone, He doesn't have time to think, and he's still confused about what's going, He also doesn't want to help with whatever the Goddess dragged him into and trying to negotiate with the people who are also against the goddess.
So he's been dragged into an unexpected situation where he was just attacked and is in survival mode, trying to figure out what's going on, and how to escape. He's very confused as can be shown in his thought processes in this chapter and the last chapter.
You also need to take note, he has no idea how strong he is compared to everyone else in this world, as pointed out again in previous chapters, like the Mio fight and doesn't really know how to use his powers effectively, again, shown when he passed out in the Mio fight but continued to fight in a half conscious state.
@CountryMage Page 7 and 8 of Chapter 54, the he uses his writing to say he didn't pick a fight, the person reads and responds that they're not on the Goddess' side. He then proceeds to not even attempt to say that he's not either out loud, instead just thinking it to himself, until this chapter. Starting from page 9 until about halfway through this chapter he doesn't ever talk or use the writing at all, instead he spends time thinking about everyone else, even when people are talking to him specifically, he stays quiet and ignores them as if he was a bystander.
@shanoc5902 and the pages just before that he explains that pain and blood-loss, is causing him to rush, and not think things through clearly. He was also speaking quite a bit in Japanese, before resorting to the writing, Sofia doesn't care, she will kill him anyway. He felt the approach of Mitsurugi, and assumed he's another existence like Tomoe or Mio, someone that could follow him through a mist portal, he's trying to gauge their responses, looking for an opportunity to get away.
Holy fucking shit it's been a while since i've been this pissed off over a manga. HOW ABOUT YOU FUCKING DENY IT EXPLICITLY INSTEAD OF SPEAKING INSIDE YOUR HEAD YOU FUCKING DIPSHIT. The fucking bug dropped you off like cattle in front of them to do her bidding and you're doing exactly that you dumb fucking shit. Why the fuck do you keep talking to yourself trying to figure out what's going on instead of trying to speak to them. This has to be the worst dialogue i've ever seen, with the sole purpose of doing this fight to show off MC's power. Couldn't you at least maintain his IQ while still doing that ?
