Ch001p19, could someone explain the phrase "duck-call-gone-wrong kind of laugh"? The closest thing that makes sense to me is her way of smiling on the preceding page; it’s more : 3 than : ) , and looks like Megumi’s smiles in Ah! My Goddess! and a couple other characters elsewhere. Since the contours of the smile are somewhat similar to a duck’s beak, I can see that being the origin, I just have never heard of it being referred to in such a way.
(Heck, my brother and I did label it as a Megumi smile since she was the character we encountered it first and most prominently with.)

It's "duck  call-gone-wrong", so it's referring to the sound of her laughs rather than how her smile looks.
Duck calls sound like this (Actual duck call) or this (Duck call whistle). I assume it's supposed to sound something a little like this or this or this. (Which catapults her into S-tier top waifu material, lol)

This is a very strong first chapter. MC still has the Japanese teenage men syndrome, but he's a lot more aware of it and doesn't just sulk for no reason. But the main cooking element has to the FMC, because she defy romance stereotypes whilst being charming as hell. Looking forward to this.

I am curious just how much making the bad/awkward first impression to your classmates is actually pivotal to your school year or not?
