@Moodyz @Purplelibraryguy Besides, it’s been established that Saya’s family and her have inherited all the alpha genes.

@Acolytus--yes, but ultimately very cute. At least it's not a cliche allegory--hard to find new things under the sun.

Would have given this a 9 if, during the bento chapter, the sisters had passed the Bechdel test. Eight it is; still a great read.
I retract this statement and have given the manga the 9 it deserves.

I don't think it's supposed to be funny.
It's just that males want attractive girlfriends, but females also want attractive boyfriends. That's why a male who's not as attractive as his girlfriend is something like a wish fulfillment for those who have a complex about themselves.

I'm pretty sure Shoujo manga have plenty of the inverse: a plain female lead with an attractive male lead.

My point being why does it have to be something that needs to be mentioned constantly . Guy finds girl cute, girl finds guy cool. okay , people take notice, one person says that their too good "once" . and then we wrap up that plot point and we focus on their emotions, circumstances, getting to have a better relationship and probably some comic relief on the way. I dont need the peanut gallery constantly mentioning "SHE IS A GODDESS AND YOU ARE A WORTHLESS STAIN " .

That artist really doesn't have any luck with her western fans. I remember all the bitching that "Kanojo to Camera to Kanojo no Kisetsu" got, just because it wasn't pure GL (and romance wasn't even its main point). Now i read all the comments below and see this - someone even managed to mention "Bechdel test" (go away Alison, with all your cultural contributions). Stay vigilant people.

Thanks for keeping translating this series.

@Hexador: It's a romance. People of either gender talking about other things than who people's romantic affections might be devoted to (well, plus in this case reptiles) is off topic in a medium which has too few frames to spend to advance events. The point of the Bechdel test is that there's an asymmetry--guys talk about stuff, like the main action of the plot, while girls talk about the guys. In romance manga, typically girls talk about guys while guys also talk about girls, so it's symmetrical.
Not that romance manga aren't sexist, most of them are. Just that particular test isn't necessarily relevant.

@Purplelibraryguy That's an interesting argument. While I could see not enough space making sense, I am inclined to argue that, if the author was really pressed for space they would have cut the scene entirely and used a more direct approach to advance the plot. Instead, they clearly intended to portray the three sisters at home and how they interact with each other, further developing the female MC in a way that can't be done while the male MC is around while simultaneously using that development to more strongly establish otherwise ambiguous supporting characters. I'll concede that saying the chapter fails the Bechdel test is a pretty harsh statement considering it only technically fails and only by one sentence. At the time I felt I was justified for the criticism but rereading the chapter I just feel foolish.

However, the Bechdel test is absolutely applicable to romances, regardless of what the assumed status quo is regarding the conversational topics. Perhaps in some iteration of the test people propose qualifying when it is or is not applicable but I was referring to the simple form that asks three questions. Admittedly, those questions are asked of movies, not manga, so the question of relevance is still there, just not for the reason you are suggesting.
