i'd say they omitted something from that initial pitch, but "also the sword is capable of making me a passenger in my own body while doing heroic shit effortlessly, so i neither have to pretend to be a hero nor really put in any effort whatsoever" would probably diminish peoples' interest at a glance (much like the plot point kinda does as a whole!)
...unless you went even further and added "and now my life is a nightmare because i can't do anything or talk to anyone but this battle-crazed possessing spirit but i still feel pain, you know?" because that'd be kinda interesting in a way & i just don't think we have enough series with a full paragraph worth of info in the title

I'm kinda disappointed with this outcome. I didn't even get the impression that it will become a possession plot at all in the beginning. I thought we'd finally get a hero that wouldn't be reliant on a skilled spirit/entity inside of them to save him in dire needs, and he'd slowly earn experience through hardships, like how he trained at the start. But this doesn't call for a drop, since it is only a few chapters still. I was just caught off guard with that last bit.

Then you have never read a good alter ego story because you don't know what you're talking about also the best ways to wrap up an alter ego story is for the either the personalities to merge or for the original personality absorb the foreign one completely which is essentially similar to the first option but differing in that instead of becoming a brand new person the original just becomes more wiser

Yeah, alter-ego/possession stories can be trash tier, but when handled well can offer some of the best character development. I was hyped, personally, because it has the potential to help the MC become better, or it could relegate him to comedic relief, I'm hoping for the former
