He needs to realize his insecurities cost him a better life. If we could see his reaction to her get a new boyfriend. Him be depressed about it. Show the readers how he deals with it. Then finally coming to terms. Finding someone else because he screwed up his first relationship. and there is no second chance. Learn from his mistakes and treat people better than he did his ex.
