He doesn't want their friendship to change... there were all these romance flags and all the blushing and awkwardness. I feel like the text box for that final message is oversized deliberately, but is it saying "Hi, this is me the author spelling it out for you, this is not the end-game." or is it saying "The mc is putting a lot of emphasis on trying to smother their new feelings in the cradle."

Once again, this series is tagged GL(on the source site), but they sure are putting a looooot of focus on the relationship between Uesugi and Eito. The girl Uesugi was stated to be into initially hasn't really had any progress. Is this an eventual double-swap situation where Eito also becomes a girl? Is it just a bait-and-switch? I don't understand what's going on tbh.

Maybe it's just too early. Idk, I'm down whether the series goes one way or the other. Poly unlikely since Eito seems to dislike whats-her-name.

Oh my god I got goosebumps from how sweet this was. Characters communicating! Opening up to each other, being vulnerable! Not resenting each other for half a volume! A story showing instead of just telling that two characters are close! This is amazing by shoujo manga standards! And very well in keeping with theme about how we allow gender roles to divide us when it doesn't have to.

Honestly, I've strongly considered that possibility -- that Eito will go to Tobi and use his wish to become a girl too. Maybe not just to stay closer to Uesugi, but to confront Noel about whatever bee is in his bonnet that he didn't feel he could directly communicate as a guy. The emphasizing of all his bishie sparkles in this chapter could even be used as a sort of ironic foreshadowing of this twist.

It’s tagged as ガールズライフ (Girls Life) not ガールズラブ (Girls Love). The manga can still possibly have Yuri or end up on a Yuri route but it’s not tagged that way.

Ah, right, there was something like that. A lot of the other series in that tag are Girls Love though. At least from what I was told?

Shoujo ai (i.e. "Girl's Love") is actually kind of a depreciated term in Japan, since it linguistically evolved to mean something decidedly closer to Epstein in nature. So "yuri" is the term you'd probably see tagged, if it's going to have girls kissing.

Confusingly, BL (short for "boy's love") is now what's used for tagging guy-on-guy fiction in Japan. "Yaoi" is now almost exclusively used by English speakers. I'm pretty sure "yaoi" had a negative context to begin with (back when it was still commonly used) where BL is an upgade to something more neutral, but I'm not an expert there.

I really hope it does go the yuri route. Ending up with the guy childhood friend is such a cliche at this point that it would be great to see something different (I’ll admit I’m biased towards yuri in general but still). Would also be interesting to see a polyamory trio, with Eito making up with Noel over whatever his beef is

That explains it. Yeah, I wasn’t certain. When I was looking at tags It sure did confuse me. I guess the story can still surprise us.

While I totally agree with you, I will say that Eito is so far shaping up to be one of the best of his class for "guy childhood friend" romantic leads. No surprise, the author has been in the business for decades. Even speaking as a yuri fan, I wouldn't be bothered if he's victorious because as a yuri fan my contention is usually how lazy het couples often are written. I'd say so far Eito is earning it though.

(that said I see even the very best het couples as "amazing beef stew". Don't get me wrong, beef stew can be delicious and satisfying but as far as dinner options go it's still... beef stew.)

Someday I want to be surprised with a love triangle like this being settled with a FFF TS yuri polyamory. The more I can appreciate Eito, the more I want a girl version of him as well. Regardless, I'm all-in with wherever the author wants to take this story if they can keep this up.

I just want to express my appreciation for Keisuke not freaking out over having her first period. When most genderbending protagonists seem to suffer an existential crisis over the prospect of even wearing a bra, having one who treats a period as no big deal is refreshing.

It's nice just by the fact that it's a little different, but it makes sense that those things may feel distressing or even dysphoric for somebody suddenly forced into a foreign body. It never happens the other way because ftm is a near completely untapped market in genderbenders, but imagine suddenly having an awkward erection when you didn't have a penis before. Or hurting your friend because you can't control your strength. Or suddenly discovering your penchant for theater when you develop a minor cold (lol). Or realizing you absolutely positively reek after any moderate physical activity. Or discovering you have to shave daily unless you want weird itchy shit on your face.

There are a lot of changes either way (though tbh most of this stuff can affect any gender, shaving or BO or whatever, it's just more common on one end of the spectrum), I can't fault other protags for being frustrated, confused, etc. It makes perfect sense.
