ALSO i keep getting reminded of this girl i was friends with in hs. we got paired together for art class, teacher took us up to a farm big enough to have its own internal system of gravel roads. I think the idea was we were supposed to draw like, fruit trees and stuff. but my God she had this sixth sense for finding random road kill.
theres this memory I have of her, she was standing over a possum (?) with its guts splayed out, like blender spaghetti. I asked her what she found interesting abt it and she just paused a whole ten seconds, pencil on the page. and said "Just look at the texture. Don't you see the texture?"
I met her again by accident at the train station further north, like 4ish years later and asked her what shes doing (I knew she studied veterinary biomed but not the specifics). i found out she's now a medical anatomist, or something like that, she does professional illustrations for textbooks and 3d models.
looking at that bisected corpse with innards like a starfish's underbelly, I still can't read prophecy in entrails but I think there's something captivating there that compels ppl like her and the author to turn the world upside-down and inside out to see what's hiding.
