It’s really upsetting that you guys got sniped, and with a blatantly inferior version. I really hope you continue working on the manga, but I wouldn’t blame you if you guys decided to stop.

Thanks for the chapter!

Supposedly, the crap translator was actually taking from some other translator's work. A different thread noted that it was a near identical copy of the Indonesian translator, but put through AI translation without any proof-reading or effort outside of that.

Hi, current TLer. Clearly we have reached a point where it is no longer possible to ignore the elephant in the room. I was happy to continue as normal, but it is painfully obvious that this needling is intentional.

I have never worked on this for clout or supposed internet-fame. If I cared about that sort of thing, there would be much more effective ways at going about that without dealing with constant complaints week upon week from swaths of new readers first entering the series this year.

Rather, I only started doing this because there was a need, as the previous TLer suddenly left without warning, and I cared enough about the quality of work that I thought it would be a shame if Kuzumi-sensei's work never got a proper translation.

Over a year later, much has changed. With the growth in popularity of CinGray and Umamusume as a whole, it was inevitable that other people would be interested in getting chapters out faster. I cannot blame people for feeling that way. However, to be perfectly clear: none of these uploaders have never reached out to the team to inquire about any assistance.

I believe poor and mistranslation is misinformation. And is very harmful and disrespectful to everyone involved: not only to the original author for misrepresenting their work, but also readers whose first and usually only chance at reading the material is forever stained.

Everyone is free to do as they please. From what little I have seen, "Umamusume: Cinderella Gray" has still yet to be translated and presented properly. But if people are satisfied with this, then there is little point in me continuing as normal. I am not interested in internet drama. There are more useful things I can do with my time.

I write this to gauge if there is still a meaningful subset of readers who are interested in this work. A simple "like" react is sufficient. This is not intended to be an ultimatum, but a genuine curiosity if this "need" still exists.

Absolutely. The other scanlation might be "good enough" to read but it's definitely missing some nuance (some chapters even have terrible grammar for whatever reason). I prefer yours by a longshot and I'm willing to wait for it.

Please continue to produce this high quality translation. I absolutely refuse to read a scanlation that doesn't respect the original work enough to take the time and effort to be high quality and correct, especially when it's something as amazing and nuanced as Cinderella Gray. I think many readers feel the same way, and I hope the constant sniping hasn't demoralized you. I've been blocking them and will continue to only read your translations, as long as you're willing to continue doing them. Please keep doing your best, we absolutely don't take your time and dedication to this wonderful series for granted.

I've made the comparison in many other threads at this point, but if I wanted to eat slop, I'd go to mcdonalds. I'm here for high quality work, made with love and passion. I don't care if i'm sitting at the table waiting for my food for 30 minutes if the food is delicious in the end.

If I cared to read the story faster, I could put it through google lense myself, but that's not what im here for. The author puts blood sweat and tears into the original work, and personally I fully believe that any adaptations, fan works, and fan TLs need the same level of love. That's why I love the work your team does, and the team that works on Star Blossom. There's clearly a deep love for the franchise and works. Effort is put in in learning not only the original language, but the history of horse racing as a whole to figure out things like mob names and the likes.

The work you and your team do is invaluable, and were you to stop, I would legitimately consider not reading the series till a work of similar quality and love was created - which isn't what's being offered by the other snipers.

The first and probably only time that I will enter the forums section of MD, wishing that you continue TL for Cingray.

This is my favorite manga, and I sincerely hope that you will not quit because of this trash scanlation. Thank you for yours and your team's effort, there are definitely people out there like me that will continue waiting for and reading your work.

There's an argument to be made for higher quality and the patience to receive it, but the fact of the matter is the sniping exists because the quality translation of a now very popular work is multiple years behind. First time readers will always take what's there, story over translation. If lackluster quality control is a genuine concern, you're frankly not in much of a position to do anything about it.

You should continue translating if and only if this work on this series is something you enjoy doing, not for a gauged interest or 'need'.

One more post might not be much, but I really hope you guys keep fighting this torrent of slop. It's true the average person is used to having no standard of quality these days, but as an actual fan who's been around before the current flit of fancy people are having, once the dust clears all that's going to be left is a manga that ends off on a subpar translation and typeset.
There are a lot of apathetic "I'm gonna be real with ya" types that say you should put up with it because it's inevitable and I'll be honest these people are the enemies of art, even more so than those who post speedy shitsubs. I logged into my account after years just to add on to the voices of support, because there are countless among those who will never accept shitsubs but either don't know about the forums or for whatever reason won't post. I'm not blaming them at all. In fact I want to shed light on their existence even if they don't post here.
Please continue to work on Cinderella Gray for as long as you can.

I could not disagree more. There are countless manga i've dropped because a team was sniped, or dropped a series, and a sub par replacement came in after.

The quality of a work is directly proportional to my enjoyment. I will ALWAYS choose to wait for a high quality release over sub par releases just so I can read a lobotomized version of the story faster.

First time using the forum as well. I hate to admit that I've read the last arc of chapters from the Twitter TL'er. However, every time you guys release a chapter, I still come in to read. This is frankly one of the highest quality TLs I've ever seen from a group from the decade or so I've been reading manga.

For an adaptation to the story of one of the greatest horses in Keiba, I want nothing but the highest quality possible. Cinderella Gray has provided that in spades. This TL has portrayed its brilliance beautifully. I may not comment in the future, but I will continue to read your group's translations all the way until the end. Thank you and your group's efforts.

Just made this account and using this forum once (for now) cause I'm very peeved on what happened here.
While I can understand the impatience of wanting to read to the latest chapter (I was one of those as well until I read some of the later chapters and realized how poor they are), I would rather prefer the wait for higher quality TL with so much care from you guys than something that is subpar at best.

As such, even tho the rest of the chapters are uploaded, I want to keep my (personal) promise by sticking with you guys for the translation than anyone else. I don't mind the long wait too, as it means I can see this manga being translated as best as possible. All the way till the end.

That said, I do have a question: Even tho you guys (unfortunately) got sniped, do you still have plans to translate the Obey your Master side story? I'm still excited to see your team's translation on that side story.

It has been in the works. It references a future race, so it was intended to be released to properly time around that event.

Hell yeah this need still exists. I'm not here to watch slop quality translations, I'm reading a lot of mangas and this TL work done by you is prob one of the best out there. People who have been reading this from you are doing it because they love the quality and accuracy, not because we want chapters machinegunned out. Some smoothbrains will try to disrupt this way of doing things but you should honestly ignore them as they are simply chasing fame themselves.
