The empress took it harder than I thought. That's realistic, it's just that she's been a conveniently smitten and conveniently clever character until now. Somehow she's got the politics of the situation twisted, and forgot the Emperor hates her mom. Since the plot is baihe we know the affection only seems fake because the Empress having comphet brainrot. Definitely not what I expected but it seems like a good arc! Could be a blip with the Emperor needing care when sick though.
