was trying to figure out why this chapter looked so different to me - but I think it's because it's a lot of close-in shots of A-Lan & Ming Wei's faces/portraits which isn't usually done quite so extensively in a single chapter.

But more importantly, we got a confession of feelings and even a kiss. So that's huge for them both. Hopefully Lan can convince Ming Wei to not try and quash her feelings out of fear of being found out and/or persecuted for them, and that Her Majesty might be able to eventually pave the way for these two to actually get to openly enjoy a life together.
