I wanted to say this a few chapters back. She has several large stitches on her body. Which implies that before, during, or after her death, she got kinda gruesomely mangled.

It could be simply a graphical representation of her unnatural state: scars, stitches and bandages make her visually look like a reanimated corpse.
Also, there could be a darkly comedic aspect to it - that after the summer break she inexplicably comes back all busted up. Much like this injury-prone female health committee member.
Maybe it'll be explained later on (probably not) as a result of injuries, medical procedures, autopsy, embalming, and any sort of spiritual or occult rituals.

I thought that's where they were going with it, having everyone get along organically and cooperating just fine throughout the chapter, but then jealousy kicked in and also the new girl got sick so she might be gone for a while anyway.

They keep switching the pronouns used to refer to the new girl. There's multiple panels where they call her him.

The MC also hesitates about when FeMC starts talking about girls and the new girl.
