This is interesting on so many levels, and I can sympathise with Tsumugi here. For people to dismiss her parents’ unbinded love is a dismissal of her entire existence. She was born because her parents were in love, even if it wasn‘t for the rest of their lives.

Besides, it sounds like the thread has made so many people passive in romance. They wait around for an indeterminate amount of time for some invisible matchmaker to decide to let them know who their match is. They apparently just leave that part of their lives on indefinite hold, I guess. Then what? They just say, guess we’re together for life and never break up because there will never be anyone else we could match with?

As for Tsumugi’s current predicament, I get It. You want to reject it out of pure spite. You don’t want to validate the people who mocked your parent’s love and your existence. But Yuno-senpai is also someone very dear to you. You even seemed you‘d be open to dating senpai yourself if it weren’t for the damn thread. If it were just a matter of pride, I’d tell you to get over it and see where it goes. If only people weren’t such jerks and minded their own damn business.

She clearly likes Senpai too. And the existence of the thread will make her doubt her own feelings. “Did I love her despite of it or was it because of the thread that had yet to appear?”

And the fact it’s a same-sex relationship and so far it doesn’t seem like people are super open (as far as the clues told her in this one chapter) may mean that the red thread isn’t necessarily seen as romantic love by everyone but the heteronormative ass society only talks about het couples but never outliers like gay people with threads to opposite sex besties and straights with threads to same-sex friends. Meaning MC could think “I am in a romantic relationship with Senpai because I want to be in it, because the thread could mean anything for us”.

I don’t know much about the red string of fate so I could be super wrong.

I dunno what "marriage by thread" under it means though, could be pushing the idea as a solution I can see that totally
And I see unbinded love movie, more world building, I see the concept is simply less common not impossible and generally frowned upon

Senpai was definitely in love before the thread appeared and seemingly didn't know, so I think it happens when one of the parties realizes that they love the other, or when both are interested in romance. I think that it also probably has the condition that they have to be perfect for eachother to otherwise I think it would have appeared for the MC's parents as well.
