Hm, so male magic users are not stable in the long term, hence why Lanak ha gone cuckoo? but a normal guy getting his lifespan magically extended could work?

In theory, yes, but that might include using magic that would make him unstable.

And so far, Lanak is reasonably stable. He's a bit lacking in certain areas, but not to the extent of going crazy. I mean, he's not even close to when Tinasha lost control a while back. But it's sort of where he's heading eventually.
