@EaterOfBooks About that RTW example, concretes were in use during Roman times, but they become a lost tech when it Roman empire falls and didn't get it's formula rediscover for centuries because most who attempt to make them lack the key ingredient : volcanic ash. And if the first witch he got wasn't a genius fire witch that can make the key components, he actually wouldn't be able to pull that off. So it's actually believable that the people there don't know about concrete or didn't expect the MC to be able to make them on the industrial scale.

As for their fashion, there might be a reason for that, minor spoiler though:

These people were a mixture of poor people living way out of the main civilization and refugees from said civ, which is a relatively more advance witch-ruled civ that lost the war and ran there to rebuild. And since they no longer have magics freely helping the societies, their tech level would probably get a boost from refugees but drop somewhat from their prime, but the fashion senses might stick around.

Doesn't explain why they look like Earth's European ones, of course, but making up new and unique fashion style for another culture is hard, so it's forgivable.

The only thing that should matter is yuri vs subtext.

Childhood friends are almost uniformly annoying and frequently make for the worst types of character (especially since most of their personality begins and ends with they knew the protag for a long fucking time)

High school as a setting is overdone to a nauseating amount holy fucking shit. It makes me wonder if a manga author has ever even set foot in a college in their entire life.

Characters that refer to themselves in the third person are the fucking worst and any translator worth their salt should nix that shit before translating it into English because the language does not work that way. It makes the characters come across like either enormous egotistical jackasses or intellectually feeble minded.

Seriously, it's like splitting a vague "vanilla" genre apart from Romance in general, but still keeping the latter around as an actual genre too, just to make things more confusing. Why? Who gains from this dumb, arbitrary distinction?

-paneling matters more than story
-honorifics should not be kept in translations
-simple art is better than detail heavy art for comics because it's easier to parse and manipulate for layout purposes
-very few series should be longer than 7 volumes

- Best girls/waifus... anyone who discusses that kinda crap give manga the bad name it's considered by non-readers. If you like ecchi stuff fine... but being weird about it is fucking bizzare.

- Most manga have bad endings, particularly if they run for a long time. Mangaka really don't seem to know how to end series, obviously there are exceptions.

@shouldsleep Missing a word there, but holy shit do I agree with your point. The number of manga I've dropped because the MC turns into a demented retard looking for rice like a meth addict looking for a hit...

The only manga I can think of where that was done even vaguely well was Aiki, and that's only because the characters doing it are master-level trolls doing it to fuck with people; and Iron Ladies, which is so bloody over the top that such silliness fits right in. The rest of the time it reads like someone watched that Dave Chapelle snip about chicken and completely forgot it was supposed to be a joke.
