I will say, while the premise of some of these has been somewhat predictable (ooooh~ haunted school... ooooh~ ghost doll that possess you), their outcome has been anything but. Teachers getting slaughtered by a ghost that doesn't mean anything? The doll possesses someone but turns out to love life? An extremely high-concept story about what it means to ascend beyond reality into a realm of semiotics able to be provided only by the high-velocity medium of television? This is some good stuff right here.
And also I will say: everyone else has been talking about the goofy expressions, but honestly I like it! A horror mangaka needs to rely on his expression work to convey horror, the shock panels have been pretty darn shocking! Someone who's willing to push things a little is pretty cool, but what makes it cooler is that it's landing!
