It's been building but also near death experiences can speed things up. Plus she's a lot more outgoing and emotionally present, so I'd expect her to take the lead. You can tell from how she lays her feelings out that she's thought about this deeply and really means what she says. It makes the moment all the more heartfelt. It's also right after she realized that Sorawo was misunderstanding her feelings, so it was a good opportunity to make things clear to her.
