Note that Rain (the jealous girl) was more proud of killing harmless slimes than befriending them... Esmeralda (the elderly teacher) wanted to teach a lesson about the weight being alive and taking a life, not abusing/exerting power over the helpless. What Lily did instead was remind Esmeralda that there are times when one can simply appreciate being alive and sharing its joy.
I'm actually more concerned that Rain's first act was to kill rather than observe the slimes. Esmeralda wanted to teach a lesson in "adventure", not score-keeping kills for the sake of "sport". The way Rain went about killing the slimes as an experiment for her magic is a sign of a potential psychopath right there.

I don't think this is fair to Rain. If you look at the previous chapter, Rain wasn't even present in the group when Esme was trying to teach that lesson. Rain has probably been told all her life that monsters are dangerous creatures for killing. She was doing what she thought she was supposed to do. And Esme seems to have ignored Rain entirely, instead of ensuring everyone actually learned the lesson.

I'm mostly certain most of us were taught as kids to avoid danger first. Kicking, screaming, and/or cry for help if we're in an active situation. Violence were taught be the last resort, unless one is from a militant family that care little for civility and/or mercy. The fact the mangaka even showed the slime(s) struggling helplessly under Rain's foot in the first 2 pages of the chapter as she felt elated with killing them backs my observation. Regardless of what you think, I believe there Lily and Rain are polar opposites and that sharp contrast is something the Author wants the reader to be aware of.

Page 3 is not a page in which the lesson about monster lives happens, though. It's only toward the end of the chapter.

Esme's own thoughts say "To survive, humans have to fight and kill monsters. They'll defeat monsters plenty of times in class from now on." Rain is probably aware that classes will go in that direction. It's probably a basic expectation anyone would have.

Checking that all students are present and accounted for when instruction is happening is a basic teaching duty. Unless the lesson doesn't really matter, but in that case we're back to having no reason to harshly judge Rain.

So when are we going to get to the jealous girl causing some big incident, being forgiven, and them becoming best friends? That is where its going right?

I'm actually kind of mad at Esmeralda. Part of the reason they were there was to get the children use to reality that yes they kill monsters but to not become numb to it and see them as living creatures.

She, probably unintentionally, ignored things passed Lily and didn't find out that Rain did the exact thing she was trying to avoid. And didn't give actual due praise to her for not being afraid of monsters.

If Rain ends up doing bad to the slime this will in part be because of the adults around her. I praised Rain for her maturity and intelligence despite her age when she first appeared.....but that can be a double edged sword. It could lead her to having dark thoughts someone her age usually wouldn't have.
