would be nice to have a tab/panel/similar on series pages for users to add and vote on recommendations similar to the title they're viewing.

hm, like a review? Or what would the recommendation entail, other than "liking" it which kinda the scoring already does?

Let's say that there is manga a. He is asking for a place on that manga page where people can recommend manga b or c to read, as they are kinda similar to manga a.

Ah now I get you. That is something that could probably accomplished with some sort of algorithm. Not sure how feasible it is to expect users to fill up these records to a meaningful number where the feature becomes useful at all

Doing something similar to what MU does with category recommendations could be an option:

Basically have a separate section in the description page that lets users suggest and vote on descriptive categories which could apply to a series. Once a certain voting threshold is reached, series' with high votes on shared categories can be lumped together in a separate "similar/see also" section within their respective description pages.

While I agree, more in-depth functionality would be super nice, you should be aware that we're not trying to be a second MU.
They do exceptionally well in their field because they focus on a wide array of categorization and cataloguing. We generally strive to give you the tools you need to find stuff, but not everything beyond that. @BraveDude8 can chime in on where we feel the limitations are.
Especially when you take a look at our Data Improvement Subforum, you will see that we still struggle in some aspects of data quality.

+1 since search is not good, so I think this would actually help.
What Night_ said is like AniDB. Any user can add, but only when votes are at/above a certain percentage (50?) will it show by default (on A + B title pages) - otherwise you have to click a "show all" where voting also happens.
I think adding a more detailed similar voting is better but not sure by what:
  • MD genres are too basic
  • MD has no tags
  • by author/artist/language/status says nothing IMO and the search works for those
  • not sure about by art/story/overall/etc like seen with certain reviews
Aside from no details, a short description (review-like?) would also work, but maybe only for/by OP/adder.

I found these forum v3 threads asking for the same:

Mangadex is nice site but I feel something lacking that is recommendations. When I here the way you get recommend manga is through other user. Also staff picked recommendation rarely change. It'll be nice if after reading a manga there few recommendations for similar manga or genre.

Recommendations also nice for some manga that already completed to get more view. Usually people doesn't really look old manga, and they don't even know it's exist. Thank you for reading this far.

To be honest when the subscription feature with the option to feature a title came out I thought that a lot of people might pay for it, but it seems like since it was a fairly expensive support tier that didn't happen. I think it would be pretty common if it was slightly less expensive but I also think it would end up with a lot of people wanting an option to filter out featured titles if what gets featured isn't to their taste.
I saw another thread suggesting a "similar to this title" feature which might be more useful. I was thinking a user submitted "if you like this, you might like that" feature similar to MAL might be useful, or for minimum coding, an option to automatically create a thread in the discussion for a given manga that's "Recommendations for fans of this manga" or something.
