Basically allow users to make a collection based on some kind of theme. E.g. "harem + isekai manga that are actually good", "romance manga where mc is alpha" and add manga to it. Like a playlist but for manga basically. In my opinion, this is better than AI generated recommendations as users will be able to search for something more specific and AI can often give trash recommendations/won't know what exactly you liked about the manga. Also allow commenting on the list. Goodreads has a similar set-up. As a whole, this improves the community aspect of the site. It also stops people from making "what are some good manga with x threads". Not that this is a bad thing, it just takes up space and the same threads get recycled.

Comment what you think and if you like it more than AI recommendation

Layout would be something like this:

[Title of collection]

[Brief intro describing the criteria for manga to make it into the collection or just general commentary]

[List of manga + section for opinions on manga from listmaker under each manga]

[Comments on the list from other users]

/but seriously y'all, without external controls, this sort of thing would be easily abusable as well.

This isnt Steam. You dont need other peoples opinions on things. Steam doesnt even need peoples opinions on games either.

Huh? You're basically saying the concept of recommendations is inherently bad. What does this have to do with steam? Plenty of sites for all types of media have user created lists (e.g. spotify, goodreads, imdb)

It's a good way to get more specific recommendations.

@justforthelulz

Abusable how? And let's assume that way less than 1% of people would be actively acting in bad faith.

I mean, given the described features of the upcoming new follow system (custom lists, toggleable MDList visibility, things can be on more than one list) there would be nothing stopping you from using that to have your own recommendation lists. Now, those would only be visible on your MDList page specifically and not as recommendations on a title, but if you were that passionate about it you could also use the planned review system for that.

you mean like MDList but users can actively create new lists, edit said lists, and comment in those lists?
it is abusable, imagine someone actively create new lists for one manga just for the vibe, or bots -which now probably actively lurking around the site- sneaking around and doing what bots do in said list.
while this might be a good idea, it's not a solution to "multiple thread with same topic" problem, as people can make exactly same list out of nothing.
well, we can limit the list people can make or the users who can make the list. <- but this might result in another problem.

and it's bad to believe most people being good in the internet. always keep your eyes peeled, assume everyone's worst.

That's a horrible assumption to make, anybody with a lick of experience on the internet can tell you if someone can do something in bad faith without repercussions they will
its human nature.

The upcoming review feature is a better option for this kind of thing. Within reason, people could even recommend similar manga in their reviews.
