I mean, he's very obviously been evincing guilt over siphoning her lifeforce over the course of the last couple of chapters, so yeah, that. Loving a person unselfishly means wanting the best for them, after all. I don't know that getting back together with the hubs is the way to go for that, but I figure he thought "at least it's a living person who won't steal her precious lifeforce".
