The heroine makes part of the story, it's revealed that the game was lacking a lot of information and Yvonne tricked everyone, she is someone obsessed with the supernatural, even being part of a cult worshipping the evil Goddess that gave Penelope her curse in her first life, and she and her cult want to break the seal on the Goddess and bring her her so that she may lay waste on the world.

She does look nice and all, but people don't know she is actively working for a demon and just wants to screw over everyone, sadly, unlike the game, having a new mind in the body leads the curse on Penelope to be broken and people to treat her nicely and trust her, getting allies and eventually screwing over Yvonne and her plans, in particular, even Yvonne's brothers seem to consider Penelope part of their family, though the eldest brother actually falls for her romantically and is sad at how he treated her under the curse and how it ruined any chance of being with her, the second, the one that badmouthed the maid, just eventually considers her a true sister, even moreso than Yvonne, but doesn't want to date or marry her, still regrets what he did, pratically everyone does as the curse is broken.

You will see Penelope getting more and more confused as everyone starts not only being nicer to her, but outright not wanting to hear or be reminded of the times they abused her while seeming regretful, the MC only finds out about the curse much later because of the court wizard noticing something weird.

the goal is to survive right? what if she runs away then?
if she runs away i have a feeling she's going to end up dying too, i can imagine it in my head. If she's successful then she might die from getting stabbed by burglars or thieves. If she got found out then they're going to bring up a false accusation once she comes home and then she'll be executed (probably). If she does make it out and manage to settle somewhere the system probably will follow her, meaning she's going to have an encounter with another important figure (a male lead probably) or a new story will begin.

this is the first villainess manhwa i've read that actually makes you feel the tragedy of actually being the character instead of getting a wacky harem with wacky male leads (in my opinion) (also "the monster duchess and the contract princess" reminds me of this but that one has a few plotholes and more of "i need to rely on other people to be stronger" feeling instead of this manhwa which gives you the "i need to rely on myself" one <might change in the future once her stepbrothers start turning around>)
