I don't understand why people are so mad about Hild, she's clearly just a mirror of Thorfinn when he was young and she will eventually be developed, just like him

The only person there with the maturity to hold a weapon and use it properly is Thorfinn (though a bit too unwilling to help others be as non lethal in takedowns as himself), which is why he's gonna fucking die with the hope of his dream coming true someday as a message of wanting that kind of dream to come true for humans...well we will get better but the ultimate peace is still a dream as distant as Avalon, peace for almost all is far easier even if those lacking from almost all make up more humans alive on Earth now across the stars since there will always be people stupid and fucked up enough to not make the easy math of "Working in Tribe = Good + Making tribe bigger by uniting with other humans = Even better" to the whole of the species, failed at the trait evolution tried its best to give us what a shame. Fuck ups is why the "last option" is always an option, because for some fuckers its the only option and they push it onto others when their too young and have to work harder older to break out, "Hard work and decent acting won't get you out of poverty so come join me" "Its the easiest way, as long as we don't get caught" wish they could be more like Thorkell his want to only fight worthy people would at least leave him live as a boxer or something.

Same kind of idiots who try and justify all the worst violence of the past as "How it was done back then" but only for their ancestors/those they admire while more correctly calling other savages, being idiots holding back the species and ending lives that push it forward is always wrong no matter the period in time or place or your blood connection, praise them for acting like a mature human not falling into the obviously false trap of those around them and truly praise for being part of making the change, accepting it for how its always been done is how you get static civilisation and the people who reject what humans can be, like gay or trans when those have natural explanations, when people are using them existing to pretend to be one for their own purposes, and aren't that negative cause their shitheads who can't look past their raised environment. Those existing who can't be called humans for lacking the traits that make us strong will always exist and those kinds of guys is how Thorfinn dies....how most who die to other humans die even if its from taking action to stop them, the actual violence to maintain peace... the actual deeper human nature so often exploited by bad leaders who are bad humans (both literally and morally by most standards). Killing to protect or live in ultimate peril is our nature more deeply than "Bonk other person cause competition now will get me killed (no matter if I made the actual right estimation)" because if it wasn't, none of us would have been born and if killing just in general with no reaon was in our nature our species wouldn't have been born. You will always need those willing to be dark to stop those who go into it easily even if objectively better answers until the latter is gone, and you'll need the former to throw themselves off a cliff too if they can't give it up or be non lethal at least, what Hild seems to think of Thorfinn as she comes too close to the pit herself.

Unlike the best leader being the person who doesn't want it (since power pretty objectively doesn't corrupt if you look around, handing it to corrupt people in how you get it...or by telling them to be corrupt for science like Stanford did, and wanting to give good results made them worse as they admit. Peer pressure and higher up pressure can make someone worse but if you don't quickly stop if your life ain't at risk your took weak for your morals. Any person who looks into the history or explanations of shit leaders can see how true it that power reveals is also kinda untrue, power amplifies revealing) the best warrior being the one who doesn't wish to fight it doesn't work out as well.

Yes, it's true that human nature tends towards selfish, self-serving attitudes. Any look throughout history and the modern day proves that. People want what's best for them and those in their "in" group, usually at the expense of those who belong to the "other" group.

But why not try? Realism may be the truth, but idealists are the ones who see the possibility for change. They're also the ones who bring about that change. It wasn't on the basis of cynicism that great changes were made to countries and the world. Thorfinn is a man who lives by his ideals, and he is prepared to die by them. That in of itself, never mind that those ideals are for establishing true peace, makes Thorfinn a man worth respecting.

Also, the historical basis for this manga has already been undermined by various changes. Canute ruled over his empire ten years after the failure of Thorfinn's colony in Vinland. This manga isn't historically accurate and well could take a totally different path from history to suit the themes.

Of course Hild "didn't progresses" she is still stuck on her need for vengeance and seeing Thorfinn having a "happy" life most be painful.
Her reaction was understable, the way Thorfinn talking it could be that he had convinced himself to put the blame of all he did on something and excuse himself. Of course Hild could never accept him doing that do live his life hapilly.

Honestly this new guys is the readers
we are all frustrated with throrfinn with his ultra pacifist style
we all know trying to be this super peaceful guy is failure
no weapons so how will you protect your loved ones
we all know history too so it’s frustrating
even his dad still held onto his weapons cause he still wanted to protect his family
also his dad accepted his past and lived with it moving forward
while throrfinn is trying to make up for his past and wont move forward till he feels he has made up for it he’s made a few steps forward but he refuses to let himself go completly forward
