Those few phone calls and one on one conversation they had felt a lot more genuine than whatever happened with Mai or Satsuki.

Which are, for Mai : confessing out of the blue, then getting rejected. Instead of accepting it and trying to win her over gradually as her friend, came up with some stupid game where they're supposed to alternate between friends and lover mode. A rule she immediately proceed to abuse by refusing to go friend mode unless litterally forced to by Renako. Oh, also gives no single sheet to basic stuff like consent or Renako's feeling on their relationship. In her eye, it all revolve about her and Renako is just there to fit the only narative she wants to accept.

Satsuki ? Just sees Renako as a weapon in her rivalry with Mai. While not on the same level as Mai, still spouts things like "we're lovers" in front of Renako's younger sister, not giving a crap that they are in a public place and they're not even really dating in the first place. Even when she seems to start having some genuine feelings for Renako, still has no qualm about using it to spite Mai first.

So yeah, Ajisai might have a lot less screen time than the other two so far, she still feels like the best option for Renako, on the basis that she seems to be the only one who genuinely give a care about what Renako feels and what she wants. ^^
