The next chapter is where the story starts to be really spicy, hehe :meguusmug:

Also will people ever forgive Mai and accept she went through character development and still is? The incident was volume 1, and we are already closing on volume 4. :meguuusad:

To this day, I still don't see the appeal of yukata. I can't find it cute or hot or beautiful. It's just how do I say it... Average? Or too formal? Yes Ajisai is cute, but when she wears the yukata, I can't see how her cuteness increase. The only ones I find cuter this chapter is Renako and that's because of her hairstyle not her yukata

The formality of the yukata is precisely the appeal. It's like girls going wild over men in suits. It's a formal, even traditional, wear that, in its formality, evokes specific images. Like, ofc, plenty like the way yukata's look in their own right, like plenty like the way suits look in their own right, but the appeal of the yukata stems from being immersed in a culture that puts tons of meaning upon the yukata.

And that's fine, really. It's normal. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You don't need to know the reason. I think Yukatas are beautiful for reasons I can't explain the same way you don't find them beautiful for reasons you can't explain. Even if you did know why you don't find the appeal of Yukata, I doubt anything would change.

Personally, I just like the way something ancient like the Yukata is integrated fully into modern Japanese society seamlessly. How the people of Japan continued to hold onto and cherish their tradition despite their modernization. My country doesn't have that since we were colonized for a long time and we were forced to renounce our culture under the watchful eyes of the invaders. It's just impressive how they were not only not out of place but actually looks great in the modern world. Unlike how, say, the noble clothing of the ancient Europe wouldn't fit really well with the common scenery of the modern world.

Damn, Hanatori must have thought that Renako is really a dirty insect, to the point that...

She feels the need to clean the insect herself

I Thought it's Satsuki when I see her flat Mountain.lol

Yukata are average in manga because they lack detail, but they can be quite good IRL because they have a lot of detail. But if you compare it to western dress it sure fall flat with how "basic" it is.
And it's quite logic, Yukata come from a time when Japanese women were as obedient and docile as a pot plant, so that's why these outfit are way less pleasing to look at than a well crafted dress with jewelry.

Well, even that's of course down to preference. There's plenty of yukatas that are too "busy" for me decoration-wise. Even a single-color one looks nice to me, just like with western dresses. Even being "basic" is often a plus to me, it's more soothing to look at usually. And there's a whole lot of western supposedly-fancy dresses that are actually dreadful subjectively. Like the stuff you'd see on red carpets and whatnot. I'd look at a yukata over most of those any day. Plenty of beautiful yet simple western dresses too though, of course.

In terms of wearing them though, I suppose yukata is probably less practical. Not sure how the obi would feel like if sitting on a chair with a backrest as well in terms of comfort. And they're much harder to put on from all I've heard/read, at least.

Well, that was a longer rant than intended once again, but in any case I do enjoy yukata scenes.

What's going on behind the scenes must be them fighting over who gets our sweet little background character. Ajisai for the win!

If you do try to wear one you should not use the back of a chair. At the time it was made women had to sit straight without chair (well all Japanese had to), so the back was here to decorate and will be quite unconfortable.

But you can most certainly find some women who had smart idea to make these more confortable to wear, like how western women do with corset. So it's probably best to look for their tips.
