though I feel excising most of Rena's inner monologue here will make the rage that much worse when she walks back her affirmation next chapter. In the novel it's obvious that she's so in shock from Ajisai's confession that her brain shuts off and her trauma-fuelled comphet denialism doesn't kick in until after she's already let her actual feelings slip out. So then she has to walk it back lest she admit to herself that she's a lesbian, and her denial on that front is still holding its ground even after she actually does start dating both of them, so...
In the manga her thoughts on saying yes are totally opaque, which is just going to make the outrage here so much more unbearable once the next chapter rolls around.

This is just a problem with manga adaptions of novels in general though. A well paced book meant to be read in a few sittings seems horribly drawn out when it's chopped up into little bits and dripped out once a month. I've read so many forum comments frothing with rage about some conflict or another not being resolved fast enough, which I never felt reading the novel cause the resolution was already there waiting at the end of the book for me to get to it. But for manga-only readers that resolution could be years out, so of course they'd be pissed if this is how they're introduced to the story. So really it's a problem of the format.Still don't wanna read any more complaints from you impatient motherfuckers, tho. Just fucking wait for the story to happen before you yell about it!!!!! Ughhh....

Volume 4 starts with a flashback to this moment, but we see that Rena backtracks after Mai reacts (which is comparably subdued in this), asking Ajisai for a month to think everything over to give a proper reply. Aji and Rena do go on an amusement part date though, and Aji kisses her finger while it's against Rena's lips, which was cute. Mai gets all depressive, convinced she'll lose, while Rena feels bad about the idea of choosing one. Eventually Rena asks them both to date her at the same time while at a cosplay convention (though her asking Mai does read a bit like she was peer pressured into it).

My point was just that Mai keeps helping people around her regardless, since people seem to paint her as only some sexual "fiend" almost 😶

I love Mai as a character but I think for a lot of people and myself included, even though she can be a really wonderful person she is still someone who is constantly thinking they're the best person in the room. You need to remember that when she was giving Ajisai the advice we saw earlier, it was also with the confidence that she was certain she was going to win. She's willing to help but it's almost always from a place of superiority to everyone else.

It's also why she gets so surprised with Renako saying yes. She was certain that with how much denial the girl has in her and how slow she is to come out of her shell that it was going to be a race with Ajisan, not a loss the moment the other person 'officially joined'. She couldn't comprehend the circumstances being different for the two, and it lead to this.

I will agree though she's definitely not a sexual fiend. It's entirely normal to want to experience and do the things she wants with someone she loves. Mai's issue is that she has trouble with y'know, making sure the other person is properly consenting first :v

The characters have so grown on me that it went exactly as I imagined before reading the chapter. Renako giving auto-OK and Mai just failing to process the outcome.

Lol Renako gives instant okay when Ajisai confess and while Mai struggling to get Renako and keep getting rejected by her. She's so confident that Renako will reject Ajisai and choose her instead but then hearing Renako accept Ajisai, she was like "Eh?"
