She's just a horrible person, though the badmouthing a guy you like trope almost never goes well for the girl. My favorite example is breakthrough with the forbidden master, where Fiance (yes that's her f'ing name) constantly badmouths the MC who she's in love with and engaged to...except he's too dense to realize what she's doing, doesn't know they're engaged (she thinks he does), and doesn't know his childhood friend Rival (again, that is legit his name) is competing with him to win her love.

that series was very interesting, I ALWAYS LOVE the moments where the tsun or person who bad mouths MC because they are too much of a coward to tell them they love them gets their brain FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN when they realize that MC hates them, its always glorious the face they make

i didn't read all of it, but she seemed the clear favorite even pretty far in. I think she has amnesia for a bit and then gets mad at the demon lord for stealing even mc away from her after taking her homeland too. but when mc tears down fiance, he's pretty clear that the maid is his one true love.

As for him talking to himself, I think that’s always an issue in adaptation, like a manga/anime will have him screaming into the air, whereas I think it’s more likely to be a telepathic conversation in a novel. Which does make sense since it would look weird if he was talking without actually moving or reacting
