This is bad writing. Rather than investigate and establish Chiaki's feelings through conversations, actions, and introspection; we instead get Yuko just declaring what Chiaki's feelings are. Yuko has science tech, and is an "expert", therefor everything she says is just true. Which is bullshit. The story is skipping a lot of steps here, and taking a very lazy approach to sorting out Chiaki's feelings.

I agree with all that but there's like four chapters left likely a rushed ending that might be a reason for that feeling just a hunch though
