Yeah, the husband's behaviour is shocking to me but maybe its not quite so shocking to the Japanese reader. I can understand someone with a very well paying job (surgeon) being frustrated at their spouse wanting to work anyway rather than take care of their children, but the dude crushed her lifelong dreams for that...

they were incompatible from the start. also the husband shouldn't have said that to her.
the parents should've made some adjustments such as daily schedules, two parents working are totally possible like the other one being WFH, etc. as long as there's one parent taking care of the children. another avenue is to hire a maid/ helper or even the grandparents. raising children is very expensive and requires intensive effort and care.
I wish they had talked to their situations like adults, their children wouldn't have suffered much if that were the case.
