At least we finally get a look into Kanoko. She genuinely fell for Hime because of who she was and how she treated them. I think part of the difficulty is that Hime may always have liked girls but knew for the future she wants she would not be able to be with one which is what made the rejection harder. Kanoko should also actively go for it and let Hime know the truth since she now knows it won't ruin what they have. Sumika should realize that she was never wanted as more than a friend and finally break it off for both of them.

So... what happens next? Will Sumika encourage Kanoko to properly confess to Hime, at the risk of losing her; or will she try to convince Kanoko to let Hime go in order to be her girlfriend?

Both options sound appealing to me for different reasons so I'm not that intrigued by it.

This was a Hime chapter disguised as a Kanoko chapter.
So I was thinking of writing a long paragraph of how watayuri tends to build up each part of the story and how if you go back you start to notice things, and how if you simplify both Sumika and Hime, you end up with the same character, but I'm just going to point this out:
chapter 36
this chapter

I mean, Hime’s perspective makes a lot of sense considering it was just a defense mechanism to convince herself that nobody will ever like her and that she’s repulsive. So maybe Kanoko’s confession would’ve worked is she had been honest and explained just how in love she was.

Guess Kanoko still lost to the giant, autistic childhood friend. Just because she took the risk first (and kinda ended up very badly, but Hime was convinced to stick around)

The vibes are kinda pointing to Sumika going for a kiss, don’t think that would be appropriate tho.

Sad the Comment section here is always filled by people with a hate boner for this teenage girl instead of anyone actually commenting about the chapter. 🫠

I knew I related to Kanoko, but this was a little too much for me. I've been in that bubble. Being special to a friend that you have feelings for, and you don't want to ruin what you have...ultimately what happened with me is I confessed and thought I enjoyed my time with them when in reality it just wasn't how I pictured it, and I had a hard time actually vocalizing what I wanted because I was more afraid of losing them, then making things work for both of us. I idealized my relationship with my partner, thinking I was a special stone that fit in a slot that worked for their dynamic, when in reality, they considered it more a casual thing that they slowly wanted to build on.

I say this because I don't think Kanoko is going to go after Hime, this is more of a moment of clarity for her to realize she rejected Hime already because she didn't want to lose her as a friend, but she never really got to cry about it or understand what happened. I don't think Hime would have rejected her either tho, it's just a matter that Kanoko already built an idea in her head, without understanding the other person's feelings. In other words, I think Kanoko is ultimately going to be the one that shows Hime the truth of who she actually loves, and who she actually is.

Damn. That was a very stupid, very terrible thing for her to do. I hope she has a proper talk with everyone. Her biggest flaw is that she can't communicate with the people she's close to- making her resort to gambits and games to keep things at peace. Relationships (romantic or otherwise) aren't to be played with though. I don't like what she did, but I know too many people who'd do the same. Thankfully, they've matured and I hope the same for Kanoko.

I honestly could see it going either way. I don’t think Kanoko naturally moving on is as likely to happen though. There will more likely be a push of “confess just to get it out of the way” because sometimes that helps someone move on.

My personal hope is that Kanoko will confess and then realize that maybe her feelings weren’t as romantic as she thought they were? Sometimes people interpret their feelings incorrectly and make it seem like a bigger deal than it really is. It is entirely possible that instead of having romantic feelings, Kanoko has just been scared of losing her best—and quite frankly, only—friend.

Though of course this series has always gone the route I’m never expecting from it. So who knows at this point.
