I always lowkey thought that maybe Haruko was introduced to be paired off with Nene in the end, but I guess she's really is just a nice background character with kids. Good luck, Nene, I believe in your ability to get a none toxic girlfriend in the future!!

I really hope Hime and Yano end up together. Is Kanoko annoying? Yes, but I feel like what she really needs is to be alone in the end and start loving herself, and learn how to live without Hime, because her feelings for Hime are more like dependency than love. Yano and Hime, on the other hand, can actually build a healthy relationship, they know how to deal with each other and help each other become better people

So Hime sees Yano and thinks “I want to help her.” She doesn’t think that way looking at just anyone, so wanting to do things for someone specific because you “want to” is probably a type of love. It can be more than one thing, that’s why so many people struggle with defining it or figuring out their own feelings.

I think some people have forgotten that Kanoko told Sumika she would confess to Hime soon. Regardless of the outcome, it’s something she needs to do to move forward. It’s just more than a little awkward right now, with the D-grade-movie high school love triangle happening in the background. That said, I think it’s the right call to have her challenge Hime’s current outlook on romance.

If we leave Hime to her own devices, she’ll just stick her head in the sand while the world passes her by. Things will change whether she wants them to or not.

Agreed. And Sumika deserves better.

I still like the idea of Hime x Kanoko. I like Kanoko's character, and I always thought she'd be the perfect match for Hime, even though I know it probably won't happen in the end. But seeing little glimpses of Kanoko's long-awaited confession to Hime is exciting. I'll pray for more Hime x Kanoko moments.

I also think Kanoko's uniquely placed and capable in getting Hime to actually confront her feelings and her thoughts about her feelings.

Hime's so caught up in this "I wanna marry rich!" and keeping up this facade in service to that very vague goal--that, as we've seen, she's not actually put any real thought into how she'll go about achieving--and it's just...not sustainable, much less (I would argue) practical for a 1st-year high school girl to be shelving her present life over.
Yano is refreshingly direct and it's great for getting Hime to examine her words and actions in the moment, but Yano doesn't press the matter, at least not in ways that makes Hime examine herself in the ways that are needed.
Kanoko, I think, is the person to do that, by virtue of how close she is with Hime, how much she knows about Hime's goals and her overall "manner of being", and she's gained confidence in her time with Sumika and over her arc, that she might be at the point where she won't back down and hide behind the comfortable status quo.

And I expect it to hurt and be messy and to screw up at least a couple current relationships, but if it's in service of the goal of getting Hime to open her eyes to the life and the people right in front of her, I will consider it a win, at least in the long-term.
Because otherwise, I agree with you - Hime's just gonna sit in cryostasis until some rich person falls into her lap, and even if that happens, she won't be poised to get anywhere with it because she's still largely clueless - because she's not spending any time living and figuring out relationships and feelings now.

I still haven't completely forgiven Kanoko for hitting Yano and then acting like she was justified for doing so. Everyone else kind of just brushed that incident off. But I think she's grown and mellowed out a lot. I can't blame her for shooting her shot here, even if she's keeping Sumika on the hook atm. She needs to work out things between her and Hime (i.e. realize that Hime and Yano are otp) before she can move onto a healthy relationship with Sumika (and that's inevitably going to include working out just exactly what she has with Hime, even if it ends up getting messy). :aquadrink:

what was the point of the last xx chapters if kanoko still wants hime ?
The point was her warming up to Sumika (and the rest of Liebe in extension), instead of remaining a complete satellite that only orbits around Hime in isolation, so that now she is positioned to develop her feelings and relationship with Sumika in an organic way.

That doesn't mean that her feelings for Hime that she's had for years suddenly just disappear. She still needs to work through those feelings and it will take time for her to understand how to deal with them and move on. This isn't a 10 chapter manga. Character arcs don't resolve in a single plot arc. This is a slow burn. The seeds have been planted, and Kanoko is showing gradual but sure signs of development.

Pretty glad that I'm getting on board now rather than a couple chapters ago. I think Sumika breaking up with Kanoko was maybe the most frustrated I've been with this comic. Wheel-spinning rom-com drama like that was nothing new, but the chapters before that had ended up getting me way more invested in those two than I expected, and I think that night of Sumika comforting Kanoko was probably my favorite part of the entire story so far? So I'm glad I'm caught up at a point where they're sorta maybe back on track, instead of when they're stuck in rom-com limbo.

I kinda got that vibe from her early on, but I had no expectations for it happening because it's literally always just the "she just doesn't understand her feelings" trope. Is a bit of a shame though, it'd be kind of an incredible rom com dynamic to have an aro lesbian protagonist who's torn between empathy checks telling her that it'd be wrong to lead Yano on when she can't return her feelings, and electrochemistry checks telling her that Yano could smother her to death with her boobs.

Yeah the Kanoko-Sumika arc definitely overstayed its welcome but I'm probably one of the few that liked how Kanoko walked out of it. I'd be a lot more upset if all that yearning for Hime just disappeared because Kanoko reoriented to Sumika only out of angst or pity. The new, bolder, more honest Kanoko is fun to behold, and I think finally admitting that she was in love with Hime, and making both herself and Sumika acknowledge that without invalidating how they felt about each other, allowed her to come to terms with the swirl of emotions she felt towards everyone.

Healthy emotional expression is always a good dish to have on my plate. Most especially because I feel like any and all ships in this manga will end up either being doomed or just outright toxic with how much baggage they're not willing to air or recover from.
