Honestly this comes off as lazy writing from the author. As I said, it's not about keeping things 100% true to the original story, it's about avoiding alterations that cause problematic deviations. Sometimes it's also more about flying under the radar than keeping the story on track. The fact is, the more he does things, the more he sticks out in more ways than one and the harder it becomes to keep things on track just enough for the story to play out the way he knows so that it's easier to prepare for when all hell breaks loose (something he's noted will eventually happen multiple times.) He plays his cards close to his chest and works to keep things in a range of pacing that is easier to work with and prepare for. Like imagine he acts now and creates a domino effect that leads to the war he knows is potentially coming happening months from now instead of within the timeline he knows should happen.
Are there problems with his way of thinking? Sure, you can argue that, but how can you be certain that your ideas of what he should and shouldn't be doing are for the best? Heck, for all we know, things haven't deviated as much from the original story as people think they have because, again, the most important thing is that the main story events play out the way he expects them to, minor changes are inevitable, but those are ripples on the water compared to what he's preparing for, and for those to be predictable he needs specific flags to remain true, not necessarily every flag
Fine butao’s preparing for the future, but what future? We’re never told this and just supposed to accept everything at face value?
Sure we know his family and him are in danger and everything, but writing wise the pacing makes it feel like this “threat” is barely even there when more than 3/4 of chapters are dedicated to everything but making progress.
And let me make this clear MC hiding or side characters every once in a while isn’t bad. The problem is they focus so much on the literal WORST sidecharacters and spend entire arcs on them with MC very passive to everything they’re doing.
Like seriously Kaoru just drags the story down sooooo much because I literally don’t care for her at all and she barely interacts with butao in any meaningful way.
As for MCs hiding I agree MC has to do it for the story, but does that excuse the author for writing each hiding scene the exact same?
With this type of story wouldn’t it be more interesting if someone saw through his disguise? Or he pulled strings from behind to gauge and change the situation? Or heck just emphasizing the “threat” and the occasional hiding moments make these stand out so much more.
Finally you’re calling this sticking to the original story. Lets me ask you what is this original story? Did it come to you in a dream? How do you know we’re still on it?
If you can’t answer that then please stop using speculation as justification for MC’s lack of progress or any criticism towards the story
