I laugh out loud whenever the guy says "Now then, we shall begin ethics" while posing. I love it. Good chapter. Never read any discussion like that before of being attached to inanimate objects, that was cool. I thought the guy was going to lecture the other teacher and the mom though, why should they care so much about what's in the bag?

I get that the mom and the teach were being assholes but couldn't she just tell them it was a stuffed toy that's precious to her? I mean, she doesn't really need to tell them she's in love with it in the first place, just make something up!

Well, in the end that's what they did, they made something up. It did not involve the toy, but since they were not telling the truth anyway, I don't think it matters.

I liked how the first thing he said when he saw it was "what's its name?" instead of anything else.

His catchphrase at the end kills me every time. I know it's coming but it always catches me off guard and I end up laughing every time.

Uh, the girl should probably still see a therapist. Liking the toy is fine, but if she actually believes it is saying something, that's a bit...

Well yeah she is. She got so stressed to the point of having Schizophrenia. I had a few friends too who suffers similar things when they got too stressed, they begun either hear a whisper or they hear an object surrounding them talking.

Embarrassment and fear.
I just assume, you might be type of person who confident enough to admit you like plushie toys. (Me too actually)
However in this case the girl was introvert, admitting she still like dolls in highschool probably might paint her as immature or so childish. Well ... Technically she's still a kid, but people pretty much expect highschool kid to more a bit matured or in process of being matured, hence she's afraid people will mad at her and told her to abandon her dolls since she should be matured. (Of course a bit of disclaimers that not every parent/adult is judgmental like in this story)

I really don't think creating a coping mechanism is achieving virtue... Plus from what I understood reading in other places, virtue in itself cannot be attained, just pursued (Nietzsche with the ubermensch) OR vritues are mere tools and habits to reach the good life

When the alternative is to go crazy, fall into depression, or something similar, I think creating a coping mechanism can be a virtue. You are not always in the position to eliminate or change the source of your suffering - you have to live through it somehow.

I think he did pretty well trying to understand the problem of his student as his role as a Ethics teacher.

He doesn't try to be a therapist/psychologist, but just try to empathise with the student who can speak with a doll.

Not using normal behaviour as a benchmark to measure 'normality' and judge the student by 'normal' standards but actually believing the abnormality as 'normal' and trying to fit it to his own common sense into that abnormality.

His reaction to something abnormal was, 'Wow! This is something normal that I didn't knew as well. How fascinating.'

so Toy Stories is just andy soul being transfered into all of his dool, fachinating(i know this is a joke )

i didnt agree with the teacher since its not really connected to my knowledge but i cant say its an ineffective way to cope to others
as the teacher said"he wont do a good deed for not lying but rather to protect her"this can be both apply to what he said to her and what he about to say to her mother
