Why? Why would it be worse? By who's metrics would it be worse? By what standards and which philosophy?

I do like the story, but I’m just an ordinary reader here, not knowing philosophy here and there, but I do understand enough if he decided to ‘choose’ then he won’t be in position to treat the students equally.

Through out the story, the teacher already did several ‘special’ treatment to those ones in need, but that’s because he wanted to help without crossing teacher-student relationship.
