Ahh, this reminds me of my most favorite Bollywood movie that I watched as a child 'The 3 Idiots'.
The main character disappeared for about 5 years after the events of the story and the heroine was about to be married off to an asshole her parents arranged for her, and at that time the other two idiots from the title crashed into the wedding to take her away and bring her to the main character...but she was afraid that people will laugh if she ran away from her wedding. And at that moment I heard one of the best quotes ever in my life from one of the idiots "so your life will be ruined if people laugh at you? They'll only gossip for two days and then they'll forget about it. But if you got married today, then for the rest of your life you won't forget that the car was there in front of the gate, we came to take you back, but just because you were afraid of what people would say you married this asshole."

This scene reminded me of that. Fuck what people say, be happy! They'll not remember you either way, they don't have anything to do with your future and neither do they care, so why must some random person's thoughts influence your judgement that'll have lasting effects on your life?
