Bro, there's a guy in the yuri chapters discussion who's always talking about how gay people don't reproduce. Whenever he comments, a long discussion ensues. I could have ignored him, but I realized that I spent more time reading the chapter discussion than the manga itself

Yes. It would also look like this if someone you blocked posted in the thread you are in: Though you can still see their reactions in the pool under a comment.

I don't know if I want to publicly trash the guy. As you said, he could show up and start arguing endlessly, which would derail the whole thread

Usually I put people on my ignore list if they are overly hostile to others in a non-funny way for no reason.

Watch out, some users have the banned title while unbanned since they never logged back out to update their profile. Check if you can open a conversation with them to see if they are banned or not.
