I have not seen anything from MD on this, and I'll keep my guesses to myself at this point.

Pretty sure this is due to the massive wave of DMCA takedowns MD got.

As I've said elsewhere, the thing is that, sure, publishers hate piracy.

But you know what they hate even more?

People making money off of the content that the publisher has legally licensed. And as such, they will always make going after these people a priority over going after people who do it without asking for money.

I'm glad to see that Asmodeus and UTOON have been banhammered, and that KDT is now taking things seriously.

And now that I see that the staff are taking this issue more seriously, I'll start reporting scanslation groups for paywalling chapters on their website or on Patreon.

i reported a bunch of groups that were paywalling content around the time when all that takedown happened, most of them were still active last time i checked

Paywall -> Nuke
Coins -> Nuke
"Sub for better quality images" -> Nuke
Infinite delay -> Group unlock + GL removal to avoid locking
Has "support us" links to third party monetisation websites (e.g., Ko-fi, Patreon, Buymeacoffee, etc.) but no paywall of any kind -> Mean stares but allowed
