I feel like this is going to be one of those scenarios whereas the scumbag scholar takes his revenge as he monologues after hurting either the emperor or empress its revealed that the emperor had nothing to do with the death of the female scholar and that she either killed herself to try and stop the emperor or she was betrayed by her own country and then the author will try and redeem the scumbag scholar but everyone that reads it will still hate him.

i don’t get it. so the person he loved died at the Jin Kingdom emperor’s hands and he said “screw it down with the monarchy”? any depth his character could’ve had is gone now and i just want him to be killed/removed from the story.

So his vengeance is entirely based on the fact that his lover was dumb enough to offer her life for a kingdom that didn't value both of them.
I don't know mate, you should've been pissed off that you let her leave and not that the enemy killed her. 😅😅😅

He's basically just a psyco who chose to kill the first person he saw, without verifying how the girl actually died🙄
