My best new read for this week are
Gunjin Muko-san, a cute little 4-koma romance, and Soloist in a Cage

I really liked Soloist, even though the story is very simple.
But that simplicity makes me want to see it in motion, either anime or live action.
Tho, with the length of the story it may only up to 6-7 episodes of ONA/OVA

Been rereading Akira, and HNK off and on.
I also am Halfway through Dragon Quest: Adventures of Dai which is quite good if you're in for a fun fantasy story that isn't too serious. Meanwhile, I tried to get into the Ravages of Time series again. There's just too much going on from the get-go, and no one to really sympathize with. What sucks for me is the art's beautiful! Art is 50% of the manga vehicle for me.

What a terrible week.

Some new reads I enjoyed this week were Practice Makes Perfect.
A short innocent adult romance manga. The story is pretty straightforward. Not much else to say.

The second was Jikobukken Tantei. Very similar to Hen na Ie, but this time with actual ghosts.
But with only 1 volume and no translation so far, I can't promise much.

And a last-minute surprise addition was Rakuen o Mezashite.
The translation appeared this morning, and I found the 1st chapter very interesting.
From what I can tell, the manga is finished, but I only managed to get the first volume today.
And I thought the story was good.

This week's best new read are both shoujo romance isekai. Very small target audience, I guess.
And I'm dreading because both of them contain a word that might summon someone, so please ignore this.

First is Seijo wa Ryuukishi.
Initially thought it was a manwha because of the format, but the art is not like manwha at all.
And turns out, it is a longstrip manga.
It was cute, and I liked it.

The second is Suijin no Hanayome.
This one was really good, and I really liked it.
It's a proper old-school isekai, where the world is suck, it's miserable, it's sad.
The MC wants to go home, you want the MC to go home.
It gives a reason why the isekai happened at all.
It was great.

Honorable mention is Ningyo no Meuniere
It's a oneshot anthology, but for some reason, it felt comfy to me.

This week has been pretty mid, but a few translations that caught my eye did appear.

First up is Ikai Tettai Parabellum.
I've been reading too many romance lately, so I'm craving some new action shonen.
So far, so good. I think the gun depictions are pretty good: proper, detailed, and varied.
Especially when you compare it to the mangaka's previous works in the same genre, it's a significant improvement.
We'll see if the story gets out of control later.

Second is Go Go Dynamites.
I really like this manga. The little monkey girl is really funny.
It's a pretty comfy 3-volume 4-koma manga.
It's cute. Not much else to say

Honorable mention to Yamada no Gakkyuu Nisshi.
I remember this manga when it first came out because the art was very similar to Koiseyo, but then I forgot about it.
Apparently, it's finished?
Bit of a shame. I quite liked the comedy.

This week's best new reads are back in the romance genre.

Oshiete Shitsuji-kun is pretty cute.
Don't know how long it'll last, tho.
Stories like this are much better if they are not dragged out unnecessarily

A few other honorable mentions that really caught my eye.
But there are only 1-2 chapters so far, so it could end both ways.

First, Waver(s) looks like a really interesting murder mystery story.
The powers really remind me of Kakushigoto, but now in Among Us situation.
Looking forward to it.

I thought Gugagumoguruten was just a story about cute monster girls.
But then chapter 2 really surprised me.
I'm not sure if it's going to go the usual CGDCT route or a more serious one.
But it now has my attention.

Finally, I think I'll include Yuuyami to Kataware
The premise itself isn't really new. You've seen it before.
But I like the mangaka's previous works, so here's hoping.

My first one-shot addition to this thread.
Reading the first few pages of Inochi o Kamu, I was like: Is this Gantz side story?
But silly alien reasoning aside, thinking more technically, this one-shot is actually pretty good.
It has all the three-act structure, and with a little bit of tweak, I can see this could be a fine 70-90 minutes short film.
(I mean, aliens in war of the worlds also died from the flu. And we got the abomination of the 2025 version)

My second best new read is Boku wa Ano Yoru
It's a kinda interesting "detective" story. A romance mystery about a guy trying to figure out who he slept with last night.
At first, I thought this was going to be a stupid comedy harem nonsense.
But after reading the first volume, it's not like that.
And now I'm curious to see how this story will unfold.

Other new read worth mentioning that I intrigued me,
I guess Osekkai Joshi. It's pretty cute so far
and Vintage Toukyou. Looks interesting

My best new read this week was Emperor to Issho.
A cute slice-of-life story with a penguin. Nice and fun.

Second was Nisemono Kazoku, a fake family rom-com story.
It's nothing extraordinary, but I liked the mangaka's previous works.
So, after "Let me marry your mother" and "Let me marry my servant", I guess now it's "Let's make this fake family real"

That's it, but I have a few other good reads I want to talk about.
I feel like there's a lot of false advertising about Guuzou Escape.
The story itself is a simple and straightforward crime drama. It gets right to the point.
But it's definitely not what some of the synopses suggest.
If anything, my takeaway from this is that... uh... crime turns gay men straight. ¯\(ツ)

Lastly, Golden Japanesque is a standard romance story between a nobleman and a lowly servant girl.
It's not bad. What made me laugh was the cliché that because she's half-British (I think? can't remember which country)
she can suddenly speak English fluently out of nowhere.
What is this? Harry Potter and his Parseltongue?

I don't have best new reads this week.

The second season of the live-action One Piece was pretty good, tho.

I guess I'll just mention Mama Haha no Kokoro-e.
A standard childcare fantasy romance manga.
What makes it a little different is that the kid is a boy, which is quite rare, actually.
Other boy childcare stories usually immediately turn into shonen action.

It’s a dry week indeed. I’ve reached the point where I’m considering re-reading some 200-chapter classics just to feel something again.

Been busy catching up on winter anime, haven't had much time to explore new manga.

But I did read Amakunai Karera, and I thought it was pretty good.
The cover of volume 1 made me think this was a BL manga, the tag was reverse harem, 2 things I scarcely ever read.
But no. Obviously it's not BL, and calling it a reverse harem is a bit of a stretch.
This is a very cut-and-dry romance story.
There's almost no drama, because the core message this manga wants to convey is: dude, you just have to talk about it.
So whenever there's almost drama, the characters immediately confront each other, talk it out,
and the drama is over, it's almost funny.

For the second place, I'll put Watashi no Kaku Sekai here.
While I think the art is lacking, I find the story is quite realistic and I can see it actually happening.
I've never directly cared for someone with schizophrenia, but I spent my entire childhood living next door to a family whose daughter had one.
So I kinda understand a little bit.

This week's best new read is a rehash of my profile updates, so it'll be a long one.
First up is Uchikirare Mangaka.
I found this one absolutely hilarious.
It showcases that fan theories are almost always baseless and far more absurd than what the authors actually intended.
Problem is, I don't know how long this otaku culture gimmick will last before it gets boring.
I thought it was a one-shot, but it turned out to be serialized.
I'm a bit skeptical if it drags on too long, but for now, it's funny.

Second is Iyahaya Atami-kun.
I suspect people would be put off by the BL tag.
But this isn't a BL story. The synopsis is a huge disservice.
It's a really good SoL/coming-of-age story. It just happens to have a gay MC.
I'm someone who's always against tagging things that aren't the main point of the story.
But this one is tricky, because the entire SoL plot can only happen because he's gay.
All of his interactions, ways of thinking, and plot points would be unnatural otherwise.

Honorable mention is Kami Ni Chikatte.
The first two chapters were very interesting.
But I couldn't find the comic at a manga cafe near me, so I don't know how good it will be.
But it says there are already 3 volumes, so hopefully.

Surprise third best new read
which is Good Morning Call.
(thought I better put this separately)

I've been diving into ancient manga again.
It's so refreshing to read the old art style every now and then, which mostly still emphasizes the silly moe side with low detail.
Modern art styles are mostly driven to look more detailed and realistic nowadays.
The jokes are also different now.

This is just my nostalgia talking, but there are so many old-style funny panels here.

The chibi joke forms that are rarely used in modern times.

The old notion of putting flowers on someone's head to indicate they're being dumb.

Story wise, it's a classic cohabitation story.
Very funny, especially if you like shoujo rom-coms.
All the drama is so absurd yet makes sense at the same time. (or at least understandable, not overly complicated)
For me, I love it.

This week has been a bit of a mixed bag.
I quite enjoyed the first four volumes of Ohayou Toka Oyasumi Toka,
but the final volume left me feeling a bit underwhelmed.

I'm quite intrigued in the new series Sangeki,
but knowing the author's previous works, I have limited expectations.

The only new read that really made me feeling happy was the Chika-chan one-shot.
It's a plain and simple children's story. Innocent and full of moral messages.
But I liked it.
