It’s always a mixture of genes and environment. Give someone some trauma, maybe they like cannibalism; give that same person a mellow life, at most they‘ll like nyotaimori. Change the cerebrospinal fluid, and now instead of “I want to protect this thing so it can be great” it’s “I want to bang this thing until I feel great”. Also when the hypothalamus and amygdala do their thing, it doesn’t discern disgust, i.e. the same mechanisms for hating another sports team or _ _ _ _ is the same mechanism for finding parasites or certain smells bad depending on the gene profile… I would assume that applies to things we like.
