Why is someone systematically slowly changing the main titles on chinese series to the chinese version

Someone over the last couple months has been changing the titles of chinese series to the chinese title listed first so it is the one that shows and the english second. Sometimes even changing the english name. All this does is make it harder to find and recognize series that have for years gone by the english title as main. For instance someone just today changed My Food Looks Very Cute to main listing Wǒ de shíwù kàn qǐlái hěn kě'ài' even though it had been english for years. It makes it harder to suggest to people and people less likely to take notice of a series they might be interested in. It just seems pointless to do and just hurts series viewability.

Disclaimer: not an MD staff member.

The MD staff are working on an update, from what I understand. The intention is to get every title and alternate title categorized by language, with the original language of publication taking precedence as the primary title, to allow users to pick which language they would like to display titles in. This is being done in phases, and we're in the somewhat awkward first phase.

Yesn't
It's part of the romanization as main title effort, see this thread, which isn't just limited to Japanese.
But yes, showing the romanized title as main title is supposed to be temporary until an option to pick a preference gets added later on.
It makes it harder to suggest to people. It hurts series viewability.
FYI, title links stay valid regardless of the main title, and in most cases, the previous main title will be moved to the alt titles so you can still search for them just fine.
Although search results unfortunately show with the main title, not the one matching your search, so I get why that's still not ideal...

Not sure why the incomplete feature was even rolled out instead of kept as a development branch to be merged in later.

Switching long-established English titles to pinyin makes series harder to find and recognize. The original title is fine as an alt title, but changing the main title just lowers visibility and confuses readers.

As an ESL manga reader who prefers romaji titles, I'd love to ask readers of manga, manhua, and manhwa about how they prefer their titles, whether English is their native language and their age range.
Because I feel like older(?) manga fans are more likely to prefer romaji (and that's likely the category of people running the site)

Hello hello everyone~

Seems like it's the time to give the same reply as the past 234879234 times someone asked about this, so here we go again...
We're currently doing some preparations for the upcoming title rework that will allow users to set their preferred title locale.
Think about it like something similar to what AniList does (romaji, native or the official English title, but in this case it'd probably apply to the officially licensed title assigned to the UI language in use, but it's still undecided).
There are still lots of titles to fix, and thanks to the contributors team we're going a significantly faster, since we're just ~10 mods managing the entire website, so we'll need a bit of time (Group Leaders and Power Uploaders reverting to their unofficial English titles aren't helpful either, so if you who's reading this are one of them, please stop, you're just being annoying since we have to lock entries because of it).
Alright, thanks everyone for attending my TED talk :wooow:

There are no DB branches. But in order to display titles according to user preferences, the existing titles need to be classified correctly first...
Unfortunately, the frontend didn't allow setting the main title locale for a long time, so there's a big chunk of old data with main titles incorrectly set as English.

Everything here is fine except one major glaring thing: Don't force "Official" (aka badly localized) English titles on us. Allow for "unofficial" (in other words, properly translated titles) to exist and be used, as well. The number of times the "Official" English just makes some BS up for the title that has nothing to do with the actual title is too damn high.

I just want the titles I know for the series I'm reading and having everything very slowly swap languages because of an in progress change is super annoying, would have preferred it all get setup and rolled out at one point instead of a very slow rollout change with no setting on the front end. And also yeah there are some pretty bad Official titles out there where the "Unofficial" ones can be better and be more known for series.
