The nice thing about this IMO is that Makiba has at least a little bit of awareness to him--unlike the super clueless leads in a lot of other manga he knew enough to compliment /ourgirl/'s look, which even if his feelings relating to romance aren't yet clear, it's pretty cool of him.

He reminds me of people with ADHD. He’s a clutterhead and does things impulsively. My guess is that he has in inkling that she’s interested in him, but he’s probably prodding the waters a little to not make it uncomfortable or break the status quo. I don’t really think he’s the type of guy being afraid of rejection, though of course you never know.

Now this is the kind of male lead in a romcom should be acting. All normal, slightly goofy. No need to stress out on weird shit. No need to overplanned stuff to make your social apperance looks cool or to "deepen the relationship". Just let stuff happens normally.
