Old Man: "Why didn't you try and apprehend me?"

Ryouma: "I'm from earth, and most likely, I came from the same country as your clan."

Me: Why the hell would that matter!?

@gaigous Because he doesn't want to threaten him any. If threatened and interrogated, then he would be less likely to willingly divulge what he knows, so first be friendly. If that doesn't work, then go for the bound and interrogate technique. At least that's probably the logic here. Which worked out at the very least and did give him some allies too.

@Brimstone I get that much, it was explained in the chapter, my problem is with his logic, they're a clan of assassins and everyone is in a tiny room together, if the negotiations were held in an open area where they didn't have to worry about getting stabbed every second of the conversation it would be less retarded, also, it only worked out because the author wanted it too.

Edit: Also, Why is he being anal about honor-bound knights when samurai and shinobi are just as idiotic about crap like that?

@gaigous

The knights in the Princesses army as a whole were already proven to be fickle and disloyal. A whole army of them up and deserted remember?

The other loyal ones were stupid too, committing suicidal attacks before his plan was executed.

Not very reliable currently yeah?

i don't know if this going to be the same with the webnovel but if it is then i think that princess already screwd pretty hard X"D
i meant i get why you scared of ryouma but did you seriously betrayed him just because of that ?
i meant she not even listening to his suggestion just because she fall in love with that knight guy that she forgive the enemy leader seriously girl because of who you think that you can finally get the throne safely ?

@gaigous ...
maybe it isn't clear in manga but ...
1. MC stay at small closed place with Assassin to hide their talk ...
(probably halfway to trick their enemy side too)
2. In case you think their talk goes nonsense, it's only half true ...
the main purpose of their dialogue is digging information and opponent personality as much as possible ...
3. MC doing this mainly to get info on his homeland as much as possible ...
(if I'm not mistaken, MC HATES that isekai so any hint from past and present about his world is PRECIOUS)

@gaigous They are a problem as well. For example that knight girl, who's mindlessly loyal without any better reason that she has royal blood. Because of their blind loyality, they are making stupid decisions, like when head-knight guy rushed forward on his own getting himself captured and creating a massive problem, and honestly, the Queen is an imbecile as well. Also, they aren't his people, they only using him as a convinience tool, and they are together because of circumstances, nothing more. With the ninjas, by showing his card he tried to build a connection and trust, based on their common heritage, and he assumed they aren't binded like the other guy who hunted him. Anything else I could say about this is spoiler territory.

The release schedule with 2 month gaps sprinkled in here and there, makes it hard to follow this story. And it's a story with political schemes and intrigues, in which case you have to remember a lot of faces and names. The MC is also not that easy to relate to. You know, him being Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee and Napoleon in one person, with a weird background. Are the raws provided so inconsistently?

@Istvan90623 That is related to my original comments point, the samurai/shinobi are just as troublesome with their blind loyalty to a clan/master as knights are with justice/chivalry.

@yarielist

1. Then escort them to a bigger room, that level of risk is completely unnecessary.

2. The talk isn't nonsense, the risk of death is.

3. He needs info on summoning rituals and other methods of transportation, Japanese people are the ones being abducted(summoned), so asking about Japan is natural.

@gaigous The difference is that their aren't blindly loyal, if they were, the old man would've tried to kill him regardless, but he realized the situation and decided not to. The knights will go into any situation without ever thinking it through.

@Istvan90623 You do know the old man is an elder of the clan, right? This is not an issue of either groups ideology (even though they're both very flawed), it's an issue of leaders being dumb/traitors and giving shitty orders because of it.

@gaigous Yeah, I agree with your point then about location. I didn't mention it either but yeah, I was about to say too that one of the big reasons that it worked out was because plot armor. To be fair it wasn't the *stupidest* idea possible as it did have something behind it that made sense, but there was definitely some flaws there.

About the knight thing though, I think he would just be worried because the knights aren't fighting for him or have sworn loyalty to him or anything like that. Instead, they're subservient to the princess or whoever (it's been a minute since I've read this so I may be a bit off there). Meanwhile, the shinobi he just met, as far as those two go at least, to him seem a good bit more independent compared to an army of knights. But again, that would just be my guess.

Also sorry if this is only stating the obvious and I just don't entirely realize it.

@Brimstone Absolutely, the possibility of getting an heiress to a clan of assassins/spies/informants to join him, yeah, that's a golden opportunity, he'd be a fool to not at least try.

This entire arc is about securing the princesses support, and I wouldn't burn any bridges, the mercs and ninja clan will only take him so far, he needs proper allies, the princess will probably want to tie him down after the war, which I would accept, but he'll most likely refuse for various reasons.

Don't worry about it, I run into the same problem all the time, it can be very hard to get nuance across through text.
