@MiiaBestWaifu it's a matter of immersion, not realism ("science").
When you're reading fiction, a lot of things will be different from real life, but the reader is supposed to accept some of them as true for that work, in order to enjoy it. This is called immersion: accepting unrealistic stuff for the sake of the story.

For an isekai, being summoned to another world is one of those things, so it's often well-integrated into the rest of the story, in order to make it feel natural, and avoid questions like "wait... summoning doesn't exist" to break the immersion.

On the other hand, "OP katanas" are not like this. They aren't a necessary part of the story, and most of the time they pop up in fiction is because the author believes in the myth they're the strongest sword out there. It's unnecessary and a lot of readers know it's a myth, so it brings up that "wait... katanas aren't that good" that does break the immersion.

I'd like to point out there was nothing in the chapter that glorifies the katana here. The grandpa is the overpowered one - we already know that he's been in the isekai back then and he has prepared himself and his grandson for another abduction summoning.

@jonsmth in general katanas are represented as a bit too powerful in this manga. I personally don't mind it, and in the case of grandpa slashing fully armoured enemies I can easily see good explanations for that; but considering how common the trope is, I get why some people would point it out and roll eyes.

@TheStuffedUnicorn I'm not talking about my immersion. I'm explaining the issue some people see in the "katanas are OP" trope, and why they don't see the same issue in the "summoned to another world" trope.

I had to go back and read from the start again to figure out how we ended up here. The grandfather having been summoned before explains so much about the main character.

Regarding katanas and teleportation. The magic behind teleportation and tossing blades of wind about is either explained or understood to be a part of the other world. Wrapping a katana in magic or ki could explain how one could cut through two steel plates without shattering. So far no such explanation has been given so the super katana seems sloppy while humans being magiced to another world does not.

@lvxferre You're focusing too much on the weapon, and not enough on the wielder. In this case, the katana is allowed to be OP. It's the weapon of choice for both MC and gramps, so they both trained specifically with the katana to ludicrous degrees. It's not an inherent quality of the weapon itself; it's a manifestation of their familiarity with the weapon.

Sooo who are you To say "katana break immersion"?
It's just a pattern I've noticed: people annoyed by those tropes usually do it due to immersion, even when they're talking about science.

You must be sooo important
It is not a matter of "being important". And in no moment I even implied I feel "important".

To know what break or not the immersion for everyone
In no moment I even implied that "everyone". In fact I explicitly said "for some people" in a later post, check it.
You're literally putting words in my mouth. I get the concept of intellectual honesty might be a bit too complex for you, but do an effort, OK?

Now reread your own post where you're whining "waaaaahhhh they're complaining ebout teh katana, y dun dey complain ebout summaning?" and, hopefully, you'll realize I'm explaining the reason for the dissonance yourself pointed out.

Oh actualy no your just à random
No shit Sherlock!
Now at least pretend you have some shred of dignity and point where I implied otherwise.

@cor3zone I'm focusing on the complains in this thread, trying to explain why a lot of people complain about this while being fine with e.g. summoning, even if both are unscientific.

I'm fine with the weapons, and besides your explanation (proficiency) it's also possible the katanas grandpa brought to the other world were forged there, not on Earth; they might be enchanted or something like this.

@lvxferre True, my bad. Was slightly sleep deprived, only retained about half of your comment ("Katanas are OP").😞

That's a very good point, since he's a returnee they probably were forged there. Since they return to eachother and all, which is a very supernatural property.

Nevermind, just read chapter 28 and it seems the WN and LN are different.
Bah... i guess the light novel changed it because it was too sensitive.. he did sleep with the maid in the WN... there are quite a few changes to the LN from the original WN. But anyway i guess because of japanese culture they decided he would remain a virgin in the LN series... i guess some of the other things in the seriesn will be watered down...
