From what I have heard, salmonella is almost nonexistent in Japan, plus the chickens receive feed which is completely different to chicken feed used in Europe & the U.S.
When I lived in South America, we also didn't refrigerate our eggs, although we did purchase smaller quantities, and consumed them at a much faster rate than in the U.S.

Eggs are a 0 point food on Weight Watchers. You can eat as many as you want. What you're thinking of is probably an older food pyramid, all of which have basically been debunked as total horse shit and the exact opposite of what you should eat.
I live in the States and routinely eat raw eggs on rice with soy sauce when my budget is low. Haven't gotten sick from it yet, and I've been doing it for nearly a decade.
@falconuruguay
I used to work in an egg distributor here, and the criteria for safe was insane, at the start of the week you were moving egg crates and supermarkets returned all the crates that weren't sold during the week and directly to an industrial process that i don't remember exactly. My boss used to say that this criteria was formed when a salmonella outbreak caused mass panic.
Nowadays the restaurants that serve steak tartares with the obligatory raw egg or other recipes with raw egg are always watched with a raised eyebrow.
I also like my tamagokake gohan with yolk only cus the egg whites make the rice too runny. *q* I recommend eating it with nori strips/breakfast nori on the side too.
Tamago kake gohan was my gig for a long while. I liked adding a little bit of sour crema isntead of soy sauce due to my sensitivity to strong flavors. Like eating a very moist omelette over rice... Now I need to buy a rice cooker for myself!
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you veeeeeeeery much for this new chapter! I was really sad to see no new chapter of my favorite manga.
@DanYHKim : Washing eggs is a huge mistake because it greatly helps bacteria to penetrate into the shell. So yeah, if you wash your eggs, you must keep them under 4°C and eat them quickly.
